Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Lemuel Robertson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Johnson! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Donald Grub and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson works over Robertson's head and body with a nice combination.
It looks like Lemuel Robertson has been cut. Johnson bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Johnson forces Robertson back against the cage and clinches. Johnson manages to pull guard.
Johnson controlling the position. Robertson has gone for a leg lock! Johnson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Robertson's guard. Robertson wants to get back to his feet but Johnson is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Robertson working a defensive guard here.
Johnson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. It looks like Johnson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Robertson has an active guard here but Johnson has managed to pass into half guard.
Still in half guard, Johnson seems content to control. Robertson gets back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Johnson is stalling in the full guard. Johnson advances position into side control! Robertson is not content to let Johnson control the position. Johnson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Robertson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Robertson manages to get back to half guard. Johnson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Johnson working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Johnson lands with a punch from half guard. Johnson passes to full mount! Robertson is trying to escape the mount.
Robertson tries to lock up and control but Johnson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Johnson get's back to his feet. Jack Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johnson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Ground and pound from Johnson. Johnson lands strikes from half guard. Johnson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Johnson controlling the pace for now. Johnson quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Johnson but it's paid off an Robertson is forced to tap! Nice work by Johnson.
