PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Norman Young (ranked 3099 p4p, 338 weight class) and Murad Tursunboev (ranked 24822 p4p, 0 weight class). Tursunboev has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Norman Young has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Norman Young!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Murad Tursunboev!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Russell Pearce and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Young drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tursunboev is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Young is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Young avoids the attempt from Tursunboev to control.
Young controlling his opponent.
Young throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Tursunboev because Young loaded up on that one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Young is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Tursunboev to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Tursunboev shrugs it off.

Young controlling the pace for now.

Young jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Tursunboev manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Young wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tursunboev, who protects the arm well.

Young decides to stand up, so the ref orders Tursunboev to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Young looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Tursunboev doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Tursunboev is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Tursunboev is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Young counters with a straight right hand.

Young closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Tursunboev quickly recovers to half guard.
Tursunboev wants to stand back up but Young manages to pass into side control.

Young swings around for an armbar but Tursunboev sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Young's guard.

Young is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Tursunboev got a little sloppy there for a moment and Young has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tursunboev has managed to get both his arms back between Young's legs - danger averted.

Young has his foot on Tursunboev's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Tursunboev works his way back into a safe position though.

Young wants to sweep here but Tursunboev controlling him for the moment.

Tursunboev stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tursunboev wants it to stay on the feet.

Young shoots in but Tursunboev avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tursunboev looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Young is fending him off so far but Tursunboev persists. Nope, Young circles away and we're back to standing.

Tursunboev dodges an elbow strike from Young.

Tursunboev ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Tursunboev no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Young gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Young moves into the clinch.
Young controlling the action here for a moment.
Tursunboev on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Young tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Tursunboev smiles and moves away.
Both fighters circling a little - Tursunboev finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Tursunboev shoots and misses
and Young counters with a two punch combo.
Tursunboev wants to clinch.
Young dives in for a single leg takedown but Tursunboev sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Young shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tursunboev defends it nicely.
Tursunboev has a takedown stuffed.
Young seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Tursunboev keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Young rushes Tursunboev and presses him up against the cage.
Young jumps guard but Tursunboev stands there with Young around his waist. Young gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Tursunboev blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tursunboev is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Young is defending well.
Young can't get the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Norman Young will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Young misses with a takedown attempt - Tursunboev sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Young shoots in and bounces Tursunboev off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Tursunboev pushes Young off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

and Tursunboev counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Young slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Tursunboev won't allow Young to sweep him here.

Young escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tursunboev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Young wants to get back to his feet but Tursunboev is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Young looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Young is looking to stand up but Tursunboev isn't so interested in that idea.
Young might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Young is pulling down on Tursunboev's head to control his posture.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Murad Tursunboev has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Norman Young is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Young throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Norman Young.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Young, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
