Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rory Rothstein! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lokee Hyde! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rothstein shoots in for a takedown but Hyde shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Rothstein really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Hyde stuffs the takedown. Hyde misses with the combination.
Rothstein tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hyde swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rory Rothstein. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rothstein tries to clinch but Hyde moves out of range. Rothstein shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Rothstein fails to land the takedown. Hyde steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Rothstein. Hyde throws a right and a left that both miss. Rothstein seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Hyde misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hyde darts in and clinches Rothstein up against the cage. Hyde looking for a takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hyde manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hyde has Rothstein pulled in close to control his posture.
That's one minute gone in the round. Let's hope that Hyde has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. That's two minutes gone in the round. Rothstein content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Hyde has locked up a guillotine! Hyde's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Rothstein is holding on here and Hyde must be using up a lot of energy. Rothstein has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Hyde gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
