The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Bobby is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Gracie postures up.
Gracie missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Bobby is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gracie is controlling him. Gracie stands and throws Bobby's legs to the side, diving into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Bobby tries to buck Gracie off but Gracie is having none of it. It looks like Royce Gracie has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Bobby can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gracie is looking to escape. Gracie tries to get back to half guard but can't. Bobby looking to control and managing it successfully. Bobby looking to control but Gracie is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Gracie swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

Bobby misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Gracie throwing hammer fists to the chest of Bobby. What's that going to do exactly? Bobby tries to control but Gracie wriggling away. Bobby throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. A close round but Ricky Bobby will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Royce Gracie's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Gracie gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Bobby cracks Gracie with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Gracie closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Bobby is trying to stand.
Gracie is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Bobby is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Gracie is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Bobby can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Bobby tries to hold on but Gracie postures up. Gracie looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Gracie has hold of Bobby's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Bobby manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Bobby tries to lock up and control but Gracie gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bobby can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Bobby really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Gracie looking to ground and pound but Bobby is blocking nicely. Bobby is looking to improve his position but Gracie isn't that keen on the idea. Gracie moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Bobby has worked his arm free - good work by Bobby!
Who's going to make the next move? Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bobby is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Bobby is looking to reverse the position.

Gracie gets a takedown into half guard. Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bobby is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold. Gracie sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Bobby defending well though. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Bobby is refusing to be controlled, as Gracie sits in half guard. Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bobby defends it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bobby has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though. Gracie passes the guard and advances to mount! Gracie is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Bobby is surviving well by controlling Gracie's body position as best he can. Gracie punching from mount but Bobby doing a good job of avoiding damage. Gracie manages to capitalize on a mistake by Bobby to take his back! You can see the frustration on Bobby's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Bobby trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Gracie is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Bobby won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Gracie off his unconscious opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Royce Gracie!
