PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Max Slaughter (ranked 4244 p4p, 442 weight class) and Glass Joe (ranked 2837 p4p, 332 weight class). Slaughter comes to the cage accompanied by Bring your Daughter to the Slaughter - Iron Maiden. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Max Slaughter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Glass Joe!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Columbo Gatti and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Joe closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Slaughter's guard.
Slaughter seems keen to control Joe's posture.
Joe is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Slaughter looking to control.
Joe trying to control but Slaughter is working from the bottom.
Slaughter wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slaughter looking for a sweep. Not yet Slaughter, not yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Joe being controlled here momentarily.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Slaughter scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Slaughter is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Joe tries to improve position but can't.
A lull in the action here as Slaughter stalls from top position.
Joe is looking for a sweep.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Slaughter is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Joe's shoulder. That is not cool.
Slaughter looking to control but instead Joe has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Slaughter is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Slaughter prevents Joe from improving his position.
Joe slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Joe looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Slaughter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Joe swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Joe has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Slaughter has passed into side control.
Slaughter happy to just control the position for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Slaughter is looking to take a break and control but Joe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Joe lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Max Slaughter has been cut.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Slaughter tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
No luck for Joe with that takedown attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Joe is defended easily by Slaughter.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Glass Joe will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Max Slaughter's cut.
That's time! Slaughter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Joe shoots in and drives through. Slaughter sprawls well.

Slaughter closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Joe quickly recovers to half guard.

Slaughter stalling.
Slaughter is keen to just control but Joe is a slippery customer.
Slaughter is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Joe can do to turn this around?

Joe is pressing down on Slaughter's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Slaughter trying to control but Joe is working from the bottom.
Slaughter engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Joe lands a glancing blow to the side of Slaughter's head.
Slaughter shoots in for a double leg but Joe sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Joe closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Joe is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Slaughter is looking to control Joe's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Slaughter avoid being mounted?
Slaughter works his way to full guard. Good work.
Joe postures up.
Joe looking to pass the guard.
Slaughter looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Slaughter tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Joe thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Slaughter trying to control the position.
Joe trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Joe is looking to pass into half guard but Slaughter pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Slaughter is in guard.

Slaughter is fighting to break Joe's control of his arms but Joe is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Slaughter works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Slaughter is looking to advance position but Joe won't allow it.
Well, if Slaughter is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Joe tries to roll over but Slaughter keeps him under control.
Slaughter trying to control the action but Joe is working from the bottom.
Slaughter sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Slaughter is looking to pass to full mount but he's left his head exposed in the process. Joe has locked up a guillotine and regained full guard. He's really cranking on it - this could be the end! Is it? Is it? No... YES! YES! He's tapped! I didn't think he was going to get it there for a minute but he did! Well done Joe! He waited for his chance and took it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Glass Joe!
Glass Joe gave a mention to Sully's Bar & Grill in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
