PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Randy Harper (ranked 5121 p4p, 206 weight class) and Jerry Jones (ranked 3305 p4p, 160 weight class). Jerry Jones told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Randy Harper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jerry Jones!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Harper's waist but Harper gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.

Jones gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Harper wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Harper is trying to break the clinch but Jones is controlling him.
Jones can't find room to land a body shot as Harper controls the action.
Jones missing with knees to the body.
A head punch on the inside from Jones fails to land.
Jones lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Harper.
Jones lands with a light punch inside.
Jones misses with a hook from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Harper tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Harper manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones misses with a hook.
It looked like Harper wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Jones tries to land a leg kick but Harper saw it coming and moves away.
Harper ducks under a wild hook from Jones.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into Harper's guard.
Harper wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him.
Harper on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Harper tries to get out of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones postures up and lands a big shot to Harper's brow.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Jones's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Harper keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones cracks Harper with a solid left hand.
Jones is working Harper over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jones prevents Harper from getting back to his feet.
Harper has momentary wrist control but Jones slips an elbow through the middle.
Harper wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him.
Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Harper is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Harper slips a straight right by Jones.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerry Jones dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jones takes one to the chin there.
Jones throws a jab when Harper was well out of range.
Jones doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Harper counters with a body kick.
Jerry Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A punch combination from Jones misses.
A telegraphed right hand from Jones misses the target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones blocks the body kick.
Jones throws the left hand but Harper avoids the punch easily.
A little feinted left hand from Harper on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. Harper does a little dance to reset his feet.

Harper avoids a kick to the body.

Jones closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Harper is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Jones asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Jones throws an elbow but Harper slips to the side and avoids it well.
Jones prevents Harper from escaping the position.

Jones has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Island Sparring. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Jones lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Jones lands an elbow.
Harper knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.

Jerry Jones has got the better of the ground game so far.
Harper seems a little lost for a moment, as Jones dominates the positioning.
Jones lands an elbow.
Jones trying to control the action but Harper is working from the bottom.
Jones controlling the position.
Jones has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Harper wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Jones scoring with punches from side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Harper is trying to buck Jones off.
Jones is chipping away with strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jones prevents Harper from escaping the position.
Jones scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Harper to see if he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerry Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Harper's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Jones loads up on a big right hand but Harper slips the punch.

Harper connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jones fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Harper manages to avoid it.
Harper swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Jones throws a series of punches but Harper avoids them all with ease.
Harper seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Jones fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Harper on the side of the head.
Jones dives in for a single leg takedown but Harper sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Harper appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Jones tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Harper swivels and escapes.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Donk. Harper catches Jones right on the button with a cross.
Randy Harper is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jones throws a half hearted mid kick.
And Harper counters with a quick kick to the body but Jones blocks it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Harper keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jones.
Harper appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Randy Harper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerry Jones.

Jones darts in and clinches Harper up against the cage.
Jones swings away with an uppercut that misses.
A frustrated look appears on Harper's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Jones is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Harper is defending well for now.
Jones tries a body shot but Harper blocks it.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Randy Harper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jerry Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Harper lands with a short punch from the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Harper tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jerry Jones.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
