Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Maia (ranked 7230 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Lima (ranked 3804 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodrigo Lima will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jonathan Maia! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rodrigo Lima! The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, David Hoff and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lima throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Maia's waist but Maia gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lima off to one side. Maia tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lima sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Maia somewhat. Lima leaves Maia with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Maia looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jonathan Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maia shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lima but Lima pushes him off and we're back to square one. Jonathan Maia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Maia shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Lima tries to counter by closing the distance. Lima shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Maia napping and manages to drive through into side control! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Maia is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Lima has just dragged him back down to the mat. Lima working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. That's one minute gone in the round. Lima tries to stand but Maia is controlling his head. Lima is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Maia has escaped the position, nice work there. Lima tries to move into full mount but can't pass Maia's legs. Lima is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Maia knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Lima in side control, throwing shots but Maia defends.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Lima tries for a kimura but Maia is defending well. Lima is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Maia has escaped the position, nice work there. Lima working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Maia is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lima swings around for an armbar but Maia sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Lima's guard. Maia trying to control but Lima is working from the bottom. Maia content to stall in guard here. Maia postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Maia lands a couple of digs. Lima keeping moving, preventing Maia from controlling successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maia is fighting to break Lima's control of his arms but Lima is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Maia showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Maia trying to control but Lima is working from the bottom. Maia not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rodrigo Lima dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Maia darts in looking for a takedown but Lima gets double underhooks and turns Maia into the cage. Maia shoots and misses enabling Lima to counter with a crisp jab. Maia shoots and misses and Lima counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jonathan Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Maia. Maia shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Lima counters with a two punch combo. Lima changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Maia looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Lima looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Lima wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Maia, who protects the arm well. Maia on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maia taking punishment in the form of punches.
Maia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lima on the ground. Lima has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Maia is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Lima yanks on the arm and Maia is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Lima.
