Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Casanova (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Ruger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eddie Casanova! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Ruger! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Casanova looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Ruger keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Casanova wants to pass to mount but Ruger is defending the position. Ruger is trying to stand up here but Casanova is controlling him well. Casanova trying to control the action but Ruger is working from the bottom. Casanova looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Ruger trying to control here.
Ruger keeping hold of Casanova's head, controlling as best he can. Casanova has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Casanova works his foot free and advances to mount. Casanova unloading with bombs!
It looks like Jim Ruger has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Casanova has control of Ruger's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Ruger regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Casanova tries to control but Ruger wriggling away. Casanova is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ruger has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ruger bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Ruger wants to pass the guard but Casanova is keeping the position. Casanova working for a triangle but Ruger defends it easily.
Casanova is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Casanova is trying to keep Ruger in close.
Ruger is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Casanova is on top in guard.
Casanova stands and throws Ruger's legs to the side, diving into side control. Ruger is not content to let Casanova control the position. Casanova working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Casanova sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Ruger is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Casanova wants to control but Ruger is keeping him busy. Ruger pushes Casanova away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Casanova gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Ruger gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Casanova is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Casanova closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
That's four minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Ruger's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Casanova stands up. Casanova misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Ruger closes the distance and pushes Casanova back into the cage. Casanova tries to break the clinch but Ruger is controlling the position. Casanova is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Ruger pulls guard effortlessly. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Eddie Casanova dominated that round. The cut man is working on Jim Ruger's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Ruger misses with a takedown attempt and Casanova counters with a nice kick to the body. Casanova moves into the clinch. Ruger tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Casanova just stands there and leans against the cage. Casanova pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Ruger tries for a takedown but Casanova circles away easily and Casanova counters with a big head kick but Ruger shrugs it off. Eddie Casanova has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Ruger. Casanova throws a right and a left that both miss. Casanova pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Casanova throws a sloppy head kick and Ruger moves out of range easily. Casanova rushes Ruger and presses him up against the cage. Casanova pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. A lazy left from Casanova finds it's target. Ruger tries to clinch there but Casanova circles away.

Casanova lands a head kick. Ruger smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Casanova pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Casanova is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruger closes the distance and pushes Casanova back into the cage. Casanova jumps guard and drags Ruger to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Ruger pushes down on Casanova's leg and manages to get into half guard. Ruger wants to work for an arm triangle but Casanova is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Casanova is refusing to be controlled, as Ruger sits in half guard. Casanova works his way to full guard. Good work. Casanova is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Ruger trying to control the position from guard on top but Casanova is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Casanova looking to control.
Casanova escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ruger gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Casanova looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Ruger passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Casanova closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ruger to the mat! Ruger manages to get full guard. Casanova is pushing down on Ruger's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ruger is fighting to maintain full guard but Casanova has managed to sneak the leg through. Casanova is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Ruger still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Ruger has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Casanova is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Ruger's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Ruger trying to mount his opponent but Casanova defends it. Ruger prevents Casanova from improving his position. Casanova regains full guard. Nicely done. Ruger slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Casanova circles away from the clinch attempt and Casanova moves into the clinch. Ruger blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Casanova breaks the clinch.
Ruger lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Ruger fails with a takedown attempt. Casanova throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Casanova misses with a head kick.

Casanova stays in close to Ruger's body and controls the position. Ruger is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruger had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Casanova is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ruger Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Casanova's back instead. Ruger keeps control of the position as Casanova tries to break free.
Casanova wants to get back to his feet. What can Casanova do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Casanova trying to control but not successfully. Eddie Casanova overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Casanova rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Ruger is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Casanova sees it coming and defends easily.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jab by Ruger. Casanova pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ruger scores a takedown into full mount! Casanova is working to get back to half guard.
Ruger stands up from mount. Strange move.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Casanova clinches. Ruger drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Eddie Casanova has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Ruger. Ruger changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Casanova fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Casanova tries a head kick but it misses.
Ruger throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Casanova's waist but Casanova gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ruger off to one side. Ruger shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Ruger was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Casanova is in all sorts of trouble here.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Ruger cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Ruger pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Casanova manages to regain half guard. Good work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Casanova is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Casanova is staying active underneath Ruger, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Ruger should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Casanova is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ruger's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ruger's back! Ruger manages to escape to his feet. Ruger closes the distance but Casanova moves to the side and Casanova counters by moving into the clinch. Ruger is trying to break the clinch but Casanova has him pressed against the cage. Casanova has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ruger uses from the top position. Ruger connects with a couple of short punches. Casanova looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Jim Ruger has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Casanova is striking from the bottom but Ruger uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Eddie Casanova. Well Casanova has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
