Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hobert Vance!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Slater!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slater feints and as Vance raises his hands in defense, Slater changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Slater pushing down on Vance's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Vance is holding on to half guard well.
Vance tries to roll over but Slater keeps him under control.

Vance is defending against the submission attempts here by Slater.
Vance avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Slater.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slater thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slater missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Vance wants to improve his position but Slater is controlling well.
Vance trying to hold on to Slater's head to control him but Slater postures up.
Slater not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Vance moves into full guard.
Slater not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Vance looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Slater wants to pass the guard but Vance is keeping the position.
Vance has his hands on Slater's head, controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Slater shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Vance napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Slater is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vance is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Vance manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Slater is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Vance gets full guard.
Vance keeping moving, preventing Slater from controlling successfully.
Slater throws an elbow that misses. Vance uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Slater's guard. Nice move by Vance!

Vance is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vance seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Slater for as long as he can get away with.

Vance is looking to work some ground and pound but Slater has wrist control.
Vance not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Slater is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Vance controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Slater throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Michael Slater will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Slater tries to close the distance and clinch but Vance swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Vance works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Slater bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Vance tries to buck Slater off but Slater is having none of it.
Vance is working hard here to advance position.
Slater tries to move into full mount but can't pass Vance's legs.
Michael Slater has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Slater is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Vance has escaped the position, nice work there.
Vance tries to improve position but can't.

Slater working away.
Slater takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Vance to pass into mount.
Slater can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Vance is looking to escape.
Vance wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Slater.
Vance is looking to get to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Vance wants to hold on but Slater pushes him away.

Slater goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Vance is on top in guard.
Vance sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Slater trying to control the position.

Slater is looking for a triangle but Vance pushes his legs off easily.
Vance is stalling in the full guard.
Slater preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Vance's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Slater is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Slater bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Slater is breathing heavily.

Vance can't do much from the bottom here.
Vance is looking to reverse the position.
Slater is looking to take a break and control but Vance is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Slater has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Vance is trying to control Slater's posture but Slater avoids it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Slater wants to control for a moment but Vance uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Vance makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Vance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Slater showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Vance gets caught napping as Slater dives in and scores a takedown. Vance manages to retain guard.
Vance looking to control.
Slater trying to stand up but can't free himself from Vance's guard.
Slater pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Vance is keeping the position for now.
Slater wants to get up but he can't break Vance's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Vance seems keen to control Slater's posture.
Slater has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Vance is proving hard to escape from.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Slater stopping the sweep attempt from Vance.

Slater looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Slater stalling away here and it's allowed Vance to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Slater trying to control the position from guard on top but Vance is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Vance is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Slater wants to control but Vance is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Slater takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Vance controlling the action here.

Vance is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Slater has managed to free his arm - good work.
Vance performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Vance prevents Slater from improving his position.
Still in half guard, Vance seems content to control.

Vance uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Slater.

Slater closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Vance is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Slater off and has taken his back!
Vance is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Slater up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Vance controls the position.
Hobert Vance has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Michael Slater is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Vance lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Hobert Vance showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Slater has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
