PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shane Mitchell (ranked 1878 p4p, 204 weight class) and Jonathan Binetti (ranked 4184 p4p, 361 weight class). Mitchell comes to the cage accompanied by Michael Jackson - Beat it. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jonathan Binetti was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shane Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonathan Binetti!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mitchell shoots in but no luck this time.
Binetti is looking to clinch.
Binetti throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mitchell.
Mitchell attempts a counter takedown but Binetti avoids it well and moves away.
Binetti throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mitchell throwing a counter right hand but Binetti manages to avoid it.

Mitchell shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Binetti is trying to control but can't.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mitchell in particular looking to stall.

Binetti is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Binetti wants to stand and escape but Mitchell is having none of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Some bone on bone action there as Mitchell checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Binetti prevents the takedown attempt.
Binetti tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Binetti takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Mitchell is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Binetti is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Binetti looks to land a combination but Mitchell avoids it well.
A punch lands to the side of Binetti 's head but he takes it in his stride.

and Mitchell counters by moving into the clinch.
Mitchell is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Binetti can do to turn this around?

Mitchell creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Binetti tries to stall but Mitchell uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Mitchell has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Binetti is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Binetti using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Mitchell has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Binetti's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Mitchell gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Binetti regains guard.
Mitchell pushes down on Binetti's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Mitchell is trying to work for a kimura but Binetti is defending well.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mitchell is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Binetti is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Mitchell forces his way into half guard.

Mitchell is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Mitchell goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Binetti turns into him and now he's in Mitchell's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mitchell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

The fight stays on the outside here - Binetti looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mitchell drops back looking for a leg! Binetti is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Binetti manages to kick Mitchell off! Mitchell jumps back into Binetti's guard.
Mitchell passes Binetti's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mitchell wants to pass the guard but Binetti is defending well.
Mitchell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Binetti keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mitchell prevents Binetti from improving his position.

Mitchell is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Binetti has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mitchell is working away from the top position though.

Mitchell is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Binetti is just riding it out for now. Mitchell eventually gives up the hold.

Mitchell has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mitchell, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
