Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mark Barboza (ranked 6513 p4p, 532 weight class) and Diego Munoz (ranked 3796 p4p, 414 weight class). Barboza comes to the cage accompanied by You don't know. Diego Munoz looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Barboza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Diego Munoz!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barboza slaps away a takedown attempt from Munoz, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Barboza appears to be looking for a big counter.
Barboza tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Munoz looks for a takedown but Barboza sprawls well.
Munoz looks winded!
Barboza delivers a nice body kick.
Barboza lands with a thumping leg kick.
Barboza fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
It seemed like Munoz was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barboza misses with a combination

and Munoz counters by moving into the clinch.
Munoz gets underhooks to prevent Barboza's takedown attempt.

Barboza breaks from the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Munoz tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Barboza defends well and Munoz ends up having to push Barboza into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Mark Barboza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Munoz.
Barboza closes this distance looking for a takedown but Munoz circles away.
A right-left combo lands from Barboza.


It looks like Diego Munoz has been cut.
A thudding body kick lands there by Barboza!
Barboza lands with a good body shot.
Barboza throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Munoz.
Munoz keeps the fight on the outside.
Mark Barboza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barboza dives in for a single leg takedown but Munoz sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Munoz blocks a head kick by Barboza.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Munoz closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Barboza misses with a combination

and Munoz counters with a single leg into guard. Barboza didn't expect that.

Barboza looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Barboza being controlled here, momentarily.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Munoz's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Munoz throwing strikes from guard but Barboza blocks nicely.
Munoz loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barboza throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Barboza preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Barboza definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Barboza looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Munoz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Munoz controls from within his opponent's guard.
It looks like Munoz might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Munoz looking to sit in guard and control but Barboza gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Munoz working for a triangle but Barboza defends it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Barboza wants to pass the guard but Munoz is keeping the position.
Munoz looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Barboza trying to control but Munoz is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Barboza throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Munoz works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Munoz looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Munoz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Munoz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Barboza gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Barboza scores with a head kick. Munoz tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Munoz misses with a takedown attempt
and Barboza counters with a nice body shot.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Munoz crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Barboza - the referee stops the clock and Munoz gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Barboza. Munoz manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Today's fight clock is brought to you by... OOOH that's a huge shot by Barboza! Munoz is in big trouble here - the ref steps in to save him and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mark Barboza!
After the fight, Mark Barboza was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
