PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andres Cardoso (ranked 5204 p4p, 519 weight class) and Nicky Spite (ranked 4757 p4p, 498 weight class). Cardoso comes to the cage accompanied by Sepultura - Refuse/Resist. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andres Cardoso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nicky Spite!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Spite is predictable there

and Cardoso counters with a nice double leg into side control. Spite won't be happy with that.
Spite is trying to control Cardoso's posture but Cardoso avoids it.
Spite is looking for a sweep.
Spite is working to avoid the ground and pound but Cardoso connects with a decent elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cardoso tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Cardoso goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Spite has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Cardoso but great work by Spite.

Cardoso postures up.
Cardoso pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Spite is keeping the position for now.
Spite wants to sweep but no luck.

Spite throws his legs up looking for a submission but Cardoso uses it to pass to side control.
Spite parries the strikes from Cardoso easily there. Cardoso is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Spite to escape.

Spite is looking to reverse the position.
Cardoso trying to control the position but Spite is working away.
Spite is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Spite tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Cardoso presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Cardoso lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Cardoso avoids the attempt from Spite to control.
Cardoso prevents Spite from getting the reversal.

Cardoso takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Spite is squirming around, avoiding Cardoso's attempts to control the action.
Spite sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Cardoso working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Spite wants to improve his position but Cardoso is controlling well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Spite is looking to control Cardoso's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Spite avoid being mounted?
Cardoso is taking a breather. Spite says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andres Cardoso dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cardoso misses with a jab, cross combination.
Spite misses with a leg kick

and Cardoso counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Spite!
Cardoso happy to just control the position for now.
Spite gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Spite trying to hold on to Cardoso's head to control him but Cardoso postures up.
Cardoso is keen to just control but Spite is a slippery customer.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cardoso slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Spite.
Spite wants to control but Cardoso is having none of it.
Cardoso is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Spite can do to turn this around?
Spite sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cardoso drops an elbow to the side of Spite's head.
The fighters are battling for position here. Spite manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Spite working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cardoso doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cardoso manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Spite wants to sweep but no luck.
Cardoso wanted to stand there but Spite had control of the position.
Cardoso wants to stand and escape but instead Spite has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Spite drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Spite jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andres Cardoso dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Spite tries to land a leg kick but Cardoso saw it coming and moves away.
Spite throws a wild body kick that Cardoso sees coming a mile off.
Spite throws a low kick but it's checked well by Cardoso.
As Spite backs away, Cardoso returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Andres Cardoso is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Spite looks for the body kick but Cardoso saw that one coming.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Spite.
Cardoso fires out a quick counter leg kick but Spite just manages to avoid it.

Cardoso looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Spite is on top in guard.

Cardoso is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spite stopping the sweep attempt from Cardoso.
Spite wants to control from the top but Cardoso keeps moving.
Spite is looking to work some ground and pound but Cardoso has wrist control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Spite looking to sit in guard and control but Cardoso gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Spite looking for a triangle here. Cardoso is fighting it but it looks tight! Spite pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Cardoso is tapping out - this one is all over!
