The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marais gets caught napping as Simpson dives in and scores a takedown. Marais manages to retain guard.

Marais lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Simpson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Marais seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Simpson for as long as he can get away with.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Simpson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Marais is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Simpson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Simpson's back!
