PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Petyr Kruchevski (ranked 2287 p4p, 282 weight class) and John Sullivan (ranked 4432 p4p, 476 weight class). Kruchevski comes to the cage accompanied by My Way by Limp Bizkit. Sullivan is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Hand of John L. Sullivan. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Petyr Kruchevski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Sullivan!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kruchevski wants to land a leg kick but Sullivan is out of range.
Sullivan lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sullivan.


It looks like Petyr Kruchevski has been cut.
Sullivan throws a combination. Kruchevski tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sullivan takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Sullivan ducks under a wild hook from Kruchevski.
Oh Kruchevski is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Kruchevski pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Kruchevski drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Sullivan manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Sullivan wants to break the clinch but can't.
Kruchevski has Sullivan pressed against the cage, preventing Sullivan from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
A frustrated look appears on Sullivan's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Kruchevski pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kruchevski is looking to clinch but Sullivan is avoiding it.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kruchevski.
Sullivan unleashes a big counter combination but Kruchevski bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Sullivan drops Kruchevski with a right and a left! Sullivan comes rushing in but Kruchevski regains his composure and manages to keep Sullivan in guard.
Sullivan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sullivan won't allow Kruchevski to sweep him here.
Kruchevski is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sullivan is controlling him.
Sullivan wants to stand and escape but instead Kruchevski has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

John Sullivan dominated that round.

Kruchevski looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Sullivan makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Sullivan fails to land with a series of punches.
Kruchevski lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sullivan circles away quickly and effectively.
Nice takedown defense from Sullivan. No joy for Kruchevski on that attempt.
Kruchevski tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sullivan swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Kruchevski counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We've been informed that Sullivan has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sullivan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kruchevski takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

We've been hearing good reports from Kruchevski's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kruchevski looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kruchevski takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Sullivan is trying to stand back up but Kruchevski is controlling him
Sullivan is refusing to be controlled, as Kruchevski sits in half guard.
Sullivan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kruchevski.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kruchevski is looking for a kimura but Sullivan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kruchevski to get the leverage.

Kruchevski is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kruchevski stalling away here and it's allowed Sullivan to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Petyr Kruchevski will probably get the nod.

Kruchevski closes the distance and clinches up with Sullivan, looking for a takedown. Kruchevski pushes Sullivan against the cage but Sullivan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Sullivan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kruchevski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Sullivan wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Kruchevski has hold of Sullivan's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Sullivan seems comfortable defending it but Kruchevski has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Sullivan is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Sullivan is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Kruchevski couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Petyr Kruchevski!
