Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ken Robinson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rumcajs Diaz! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Winston Alpacca and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A momentary lapse in concentration from Diaz enables Robinson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Diaz manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Diaz tries to land a sweep but no joy. Diaz keeping full guard, as Robinson tries to pass. Robinson content to stall in guard here. Diaz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Robinson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Robinson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Robinson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Diaz is keeping the position for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Robinson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Robinson stands and throws Diaz's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz tries to improve position but can't. Robinson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Diaz, who protects the arm well. Robinson content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Diaz is looking to regain half guard here but Robinson keeps moving and retains side control. Robinson has an Americana. Diaz didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Robinson is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Robinson hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Ken Robinson! Ken Robinson was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
