PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lane Tate (ranked 24137 p4p, 492 weight class) and Rick Young Young (ranked 24139 p4p, 528 weight class). Rick Young Young told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lane Tate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Young Young !
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Young closes the distance and clinches.
Tate goes for a takedown in the clinch but Young prevents it.
Tate could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Tate avoiding damage as Young throws knees to the body.

Young breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Young throws a push kick but Tate slaps the foot to one side.

Young fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Tate, pushing him back against the cage.
Tate working hard to break the clinch.
Young leaning against his opponent.
Stalling in the clinch from Young .
Young continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.

Young has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Tate is trying to keep an underhook but Young manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Tate flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Tate looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Young is looking for a kimura but Tate is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Young to get the leverage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Young is controlling the pace.
Tate is looking to improve his position.
Tate knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Young on the ground.
Young is thwarting Tate's attempts to control the position.
Young with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Tate has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Young is working away from the top position though.
Young is taking a breather. Tate says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Young tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Tate.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Tate tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Young manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Tate fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tate darts in trying to clinch

and Young counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Young content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Young thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Tate's head.
Young is looking to advance position but Tate won't allow it.
Tate trying to control but Young postures up.
Young working Tate over with strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Young is looking to take a break and control but Tate is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tate keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Young trying to control from half guard but Tate is working away.
Tate is trying to maintain the position but Young is very close to passing his half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Young controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Tate wants to clinch.
Tate throws an off balance right hand

and Young counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Tate!
Young is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Tate's shoulder. That is not cool.
Tate is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Young has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Tate!
Young tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Young avoids the attempt from Tate to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Young trying to control but Tate is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tate is bucking up trying to escape but Young cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Young tries to control but Tate wriggling away.
Young controlling the pace for now.
Tate can't escape the position.

Young wants to finish this one by submission but Tate is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Young .
A nice elbow there by Young .

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Young lands a heavy elbow.
Young controlling from mount.
Young wants to get back to his feet but Tate is holding on tight.
Young has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Tate squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Tate tries to reverse the position but Young maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Young postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Tate looks a forlorn figure.
Young raining down hammerfists from mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Young lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Tate hang on?

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Young has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Tate is forced to tap!
