Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ben Reed! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juan Carlos Guillen! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Guillen tries to move into range but Reed moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Reed stuffs the takedown attempt from Guillen. Guillen gets slowly back to his feet. A bone on bone clash there as Guillen blocks the leg kick.
It seemed like Guillen was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. A telegraphed right hand from Reed misses the target. Guillen misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Guillen misses with a double jab.
A counter left hand to the body from Reed misses its target. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Guillen has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Guillen misses with a looping right. Reed throws a body shot but no joy. Juan Carlos Guillen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Guillen looks to land a left hand but Reed moved out of range nicely. Guillen connects with a body shot that sends Reed's belly button to the back. Guillen misses with a jab, cross combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Reed.
Reed lands a nice looking body shot.
The fighters circle momentarily. Reed darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Reed has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Crapollas Gym in the buildup to the fight. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Guillen on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Guillen is rocked! Reed bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Jab, jab by Guillen - just one landing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Guillen throws a body punch but Reed moves out of range. A big right from Guillen misses. Reed was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Guillen scores with a sloppy right hand. Reed should have avoided that one. Guillen misses with a wild body shot. Reed avoids the body shot from Guillen.
Reed is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Reed lands a nice shot that snaps Guillen's head back.
Guillen is still on wobbly legs! Can Reed finish him? Ben Reed is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. A shot to the liver by Reed. Beautiful body shot. Guillen looks winded! Guillen throws a hook to the side of Reed's head but Reed sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Reed lands a big uppercut and this one is all over! His foe lies motionless on the canvas - a massive one punch knockout!
