Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tony Twist! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Wade Washington ! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Dirk Anderson and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Twist cracks Washington with a right hand to the side of the head.
It looks like Wade Washington has been cut. Twist lands with a shot to the body. Twist circles away from the clinch attempt.
Washington shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Twist's guard. Washington seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. It looks like Washington might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Washington 's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Twist on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Twist tries to get out of the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Washington works a leg free and moves into half guard. Still in half guard, Washington seems content to control. Twist definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Washington not landing any meaningful shots this time. Washington not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Washington stalling. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Washington is trying hard to land a takedown here. Twist sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Washington fails with the takedown and Twist counters with a straight right hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Twist lunges at Washington with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Washington 's hand. Twist throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Washington stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Twist cracks Washington with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Washington is rocked! Washington leaves his chin hanging out and Twist seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Washington crumbles to the floor in a heap! The referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Tony Twist! After winning the bout, Tony Twist thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
