PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tye Dollasign (ranked 24799 p4p, 617 weight class) and Artorias Vendal (ranked 3501 p4p, 371 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Tye Dollasign! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Artorias Vendal! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Sam Margolis and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dollasign fails with an attempt to clinch.
Vendal swings away with a leg kick that misses. Dollasign swings for the body but Vendal moves out of range.
Vendal with the counter takedown but Dollasign avoids it easily. Vendal shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dollasign's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dollasign is working an open guard so Vendal takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Vendal throws a left and a right that both miss
and Dollasign counters with a lovely straight right hand! Vendal gets the takedown into side control. Dollasign is trying to work for a sweep but Vendal has mounted him! Vendal get's back to his feet. Vendal clinches up with Dollasign and pushes him back against the cage. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Dollasign is trying to pull guard but Vendal has him pressed against the cage. Dollasign tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Vendal smiles and moves away.
Dollasign lands a nice looking body shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vendal pushes Dollasign up against the cage in a clinch. Vendal's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Vendal moves into the clinch successfully.
Dollasign jumps guard but Vendal stands there with Dollasign around his waist. Dollasign gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tye Dollasign. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dollasign tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Vendal smiles and moves away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dollasign is defended easily by Vendal. Vendal is looking for the big counter here. Vendal rushes Dollasign and presses him up against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vendal pulls guard. Dollasign drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Vendal manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dollasign has Vendal in his guard.
Dollasign escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vendal gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Vendal trying to control the position from guard on top but Dollasign is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Vendal sitting in guard, not really doing much. Dollasign keeping moving, preventing Vendal from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dollasign escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vendal gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Vendal makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Vendal showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Vendal with a nice head shot there. Vendal scoring with punches to the head and body. Vendal stands and steps away. Dollasign gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Artorias Vendal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Dollasign takes a swing at Vendal's ribcage but misses. Vendal fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dollasign sprawls well initially but Vendal persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Vendal working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Vendal is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dollasign doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Vendal.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dollasign looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Dollasign with the active half guard here but Vendal passes nicely into side control. Dollasign is trying to get back to half guard. Dollasign is trying to work for a sweep but Vendal has mounted him! Vendal looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Vendal looking to secure an arm triangle but Dollasign defends it well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Artorias Vendal dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Vendal closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Vendal stands up and beckons Dollasign to his feet. Vendal tries to bum rush Dollasign with a series of wild strikes but Dollasign uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Dollasign tests Vendal's chin there with a solid looking shot. Dollasign fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vendal with a body punch. A glancing blow. Dollasign works Vendal's body with a nice hook. Vendal throws a predictable looking body shot
and Dollasign counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vendal swings for the body but Dollasign moves out of range.
A cross from Dollasign lands. Vendal gets the takedown into side control. Vendal trying to control the position but Dollasign is working away. Dollasign tries to get back to half guard but can't. Dollasign regains half guard. Dollasign looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Dollasign is not content to let Vendal control the position. Artorias Vendal has got the better of the ground game so far. Vendal decides to stand and escape the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vendal closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Dollasign's guard. Vendal is breathing heavily. Vendal wants to control from the top but Dollasign keeps moving. Dollasign throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Vendal escapes and throws Dollasign's legs to the side, diving into side control! Vendal has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Vendal wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dollasign keeps working. Dollasign tries to get back to half guard but can't. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Vendal trying to control the action but Dollasign is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vendal scoring with punches from side control. Vendal stands up and beckons Dollasign to his feet. Vendal throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dollasign was covering up waiting for the punch and Vendal finishes the takedown easily into guard. Vendal stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dollasign swivels though and keeps the full guard. Dollasign has a closed guard, preventing Vendal from standing up. Vendal trying to control the position from guard on top but Dollasign is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Vendal is looking to stand up but Dollasign won't let him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dollasign working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vendal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vendal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Dollasign has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Vendal doesn't defend quickly enough and Dollasign has managed to lock this one up! Can Vendal escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Dollasign on a fantastic submission victory.
