Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oskar Schmidt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hugo Stotts! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stotts connects with a right hand. Schmidt shakes it off. Stotts bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Schmidt's head. A combination from Stotts does no damage. Schmidt is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Stotts takes a swing at Schmidt's ribcage but misses. Schmidt shoots in and gets a takedown into Stotts's guard. Schmidt in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Schmidt wants to control from the top but Stotts keeps moving. Stotts not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schmidt wants to control from the top but Stotts keeps moving. Stotts controls Schmidt momentarily but Schmidt frees himself. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Stotts can do anything to dispel that myth. Stotts wants to hit a switch here but Schmidt passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Stotts there! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schmidt working the ground and pound effectively.
Schmidt raining down hammerfists from mount. Schmidt tries to control but Stotts wriggling away. Schmidt lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Schmidt scoring with strikes but Stotts is staying in there. Schmidt pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schmidt with the ground and pound from mount.
Stotts is rocked! Schmidt jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Stotts manages to avoid the submission attempt. Schmidt lands a decent elbow from side control. Stotts is still in real trouble! Can Schmidt finish him? The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Schmidt cracks Stotts with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Schmidt immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Stotts is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Schmidt!
