PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nathanael Jones (ranked 23354 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordan Clarkson (ranked 5477 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nathanael Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jordan Clarkson!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Steve Montenegro and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Clarkson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Jones looking for a kimura from the bottom but Clarkson passes into side control!
Clarkson landing a few strikes.
Jones is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Clarkson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Clarkson eventually gives up the hold.
Jones is refusing to be controlled, as Clarkson sits in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones kicks Clarkson off and gets back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Jones gets caught napping as Clarkson dives in and scores a takedown. Jones manages to retain guard.

Jones pushes Clarkson off and scrambles back to his feet.

Clarkson gets a takedown into half guard.
Clarkson prevents Jones from improving his position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jones is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Clarkson pulls his head out easily.

Clarkson stands up from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Clarkson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jones's guard.

Jones is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Clarkson manages to pull guard.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Clarkson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones chips away with some ground and pound.
Jones distracts Clarkson with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Clarkson wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.
Jones postures up.
Clarkson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jones haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Jones chips away with some ground and pound.
Jones really is a fat lump.
Jones controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Clarkson is trying to keep Jones in close.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Jones's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Clarkson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jones postures up in Clarkson's guard and throws a big left but Clarkson blocks it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Jones fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Clarkson darts in and clinches Jones up against the cage.
Jones wants to break the clinch but can't.
Clarkson swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Clarkson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Clarkson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Nathanael Jones will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Clarkson moves into the clinch successfully.

Clarkson manages to break the clinch.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Clarkson tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Clarkson to the ground. Clarkson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Jones gets tackled into the cage by Clarkson. Clarkson maintains the clinch.

Clarkson manages to break the clinch.
Clarkson throws a head kick that misses

and Jones counters by clinching up.
Clarkson is pressed up against the cage. Jones has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Clarkson down to the mat. Clarkson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Clarkson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jones's half guard.
Jones regains full guard. Nicely done.

Clarkson is sitting in close to Jones's body. Jones has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Clarkson is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Clarkson is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Jones.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Nathanael Jones!
