PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Genji Kamogawa (ranked 2274 p4p, 121 weight class) and Ichiro Suzuki (ranked 2009 p4p, 105 weight class). Kamogawa comes to the cage accompanied by The Veer Union - Bitter End. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Genji Kamogawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ichiro Suzuki!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Eliza Hachem and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kamogawa fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Suzuki looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Kamogawa punishes Suzuki's body with a nice straight punch.
Suzuki uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kamogawa.
Suzuki changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Kamogawa lands a glancing blow to the side of Suzuki's head.
Suzuki uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kamogawa.
Genji Kamogawa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kamogawa is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Suzuki.
Suzuki shoots in for a takedown but Kamogawa shows good takedown defense.
Kamogawa stuffs the takedown attempt from Suzuki. Suzuki gets slowly back to his feet.
Suzuki takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
We've been told by Kamogawa's head coaches at Scotty's Yard that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Kamogawa cracks Suzuki with a right hand to the side of the head.

Kamogawa comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Kamogawa throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Suzuki gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Kamogawa.
A jab from Kamogawa finds it's way through Suzuki's defenses.
No luck for Suzuki with that takedown attempt.

Suzuki shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kamogawa is trying to defend but Suzuki finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Suzuki is pushing down on Kamogawa's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kamogawa is fighting to maintain full guard but Suzuki has managed to sneak the leg through.

Kamogawa on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kamogawa tries to get out of the position.
Kamogawa is staying active underneath Suzuki, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Kamogawa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Suzuki on the ground.

Suzuki wants to get up but he can't break Kamogawa's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Suzuki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kamogawa swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Still in half guard, Suzuki seems content to control.
Suzuki tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kamogawa knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Suzuki seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kamogawa does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Suzuki is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kamogawa is just riding it out for now. Suzuki eventually gives up the hold.

Suzuki is looking to work his way around to Kamogawa's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Suzuki closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kamogawa is trying is best to control the position here.
Suzuki wants to stand up but Kamogawa has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Kamogawa presses Suzuki against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Kamogawa gets through Suzuki's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Suzuki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Kamogawa.
Kamogawa lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Kamogawa lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Suzuki.

Kamogawa breaks the clinch.
Kamogawa jabs Suzuki to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Kamogawa cracks Suzuki with a good jab.


Suzuki is rocked!
Suzuki drops his hands momentarily. Kamogawa doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Suzuki staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Suzuki doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Genji Kamogawa!
Genji Kamogawa decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
