Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nicky Spite (ranked 4914 p4p, 496 weight class) and Jake Peralta (ranked 6440 p4p, 547 weight class). Nicky Spite has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nicky Spite!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Peralta!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spite throws a body shot but no joy.
Spite throws a lazy body kick

and Peralta counters with a shoot takedown. Spite fights it but they end up in guard.
Peralta trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Spite is looking for a triangle but Peralta pushes his legs off easily.
Peralta is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Spite keeping moving, preventing Peralta from controlling successfully.
Peralta working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Peralta throws a big right hand that misses.
Peralta pushing down on Spite's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Peralta is keen to just control but Spite is a slippery customer.
Peralta is thwarting Spite's attempts to control the position.

Peralta looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Spite looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Spite has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Peralta is working away from the top position though.

Peralta is taking a breather. Spite says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Spite is looking to control Peralta's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Spite avoid being mounted?

Peralta is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Spite still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Spite has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Spite tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Spite throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Peralta works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Peralta works his way to full guard. Good work.
Spite wants to control from the top but Peralta keeps moving.

Spite trying to control the position from guard on top but Peralta is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Peralta is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Spite wants to control from the top but Peralta keeps moving.
Peralta has his hands on Spite's head, controlling the position.
Peralta looking to control but Spite passes into half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Peralta wants to get back to full guard.
Spite wants to take a breather but Peralta is having none of it.

Spite is working for a submission of some sort.
Peralta is looking to improve his position.

Spite is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Nicky Spite will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Spite throws a head kick that misses

and Peralta counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Spite!
Peralta creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Peralta tries to move to mount but Spite blocks the move with his legs.
Spite tries to bench press Peralta off him but Peralta keeps the position.
Peralta is putting a hurting on Spite here, landing some big shots from side control.
Spite struggling a bit here.
Spite manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Peralta working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Spite looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Peralta drops an elbow to the side of Spite's head.
My spies in Cozad MMA New York inform me that Peralta has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Peralta is trying to control. Spite wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Peralta might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Spite haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Spite is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Spite is refusing to be controlled, as Peralta sits in half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Peralta lands a nice short elbow.
Peralta drops an elbow to the side of Spite's head.

Spite is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Peralta pulls his head out easily.
Spite is trying to control but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Spite tries to roll over but Peralta keeps him under control.
Spite has hold of Peralta's hands but Peralta slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Peralta looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Spite with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Peralta is trying to control the action in half guard but Spite is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Peralta connects with a nice short shot to Spite's temple.
Spite is not content to let Peralta control the position.
Peralta thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Spite's head.

Peralta seems to be working for a kimura but Spite defends the submission attempt.

Spite has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Peralta. Oh but Spite has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Peralta goes limp - he's gone! Spite jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
