PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ice Cube (ranked 4805 p4p, 34 weight class) and Jack Tupp (ranked 4388 p4p, 139 weight class). Tupp has chosen Black No. 1 as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ice Cube!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Tupp!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Chris Edwards and William Gold.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tupp fails with a takedown attempt.
Cube lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Tupp tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cube swivels and escapes.
Cube scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Tupp doesn't seem bothered though.
Tupp looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Tupp throws a lazy uppercut
and Cube counters with a big head kick but Tupp shrugs it off.

Tupp has taken the fight to the clinch.
Cube wants to get back to striking at distance but Tupp won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cube blocks a punch to the side of the head.
The referee is keeping an eye on Cube - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Tupp looking for a takedown.
Ice Cube has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Tupp.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cube pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Tupp walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Cube looks to land a combination. Tupp sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

It looks like Jack Tupp has been cut.
Tupp shoots and misses
and Cube counters with a stiff right hand.

Cube lands a big shot that drops Tupp! Can he finish him?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tupp being controlled here, momentarily.
Cube is looking to stand up but Tupp won't let him.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tupp can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cube knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tupp on the ground.
Tupp keeping moving, preventing Cube from controlling successfully.
Tupp is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cube is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tupp uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Tupp misses with a takedown attempt
and Cube counters with a nice uppercut.
Tupp lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cube circles away quickly and effectively.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A left and a right from Cube both land. Nice combination.
Cube looks for a left high kick but can't connect. Cube backs up to catch a breather... no he lunges forward with a huge flying knee that smacks Tupp's temple! It sends Tupp violently to the canvas! The crowd goes nuts as Cube celebrates and the doctors try to help Tupp!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Flying Knee). Ice Cube!
Ice Cube decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
