Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Alves (ranked 5479 p4p, 462 weight class) and Charlie Carter (ranked 5068 p4p, 449 weight class). Pedro Alves has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Charlie Carter!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter ducks under a wild hook from Alves.
Alves throws a leg kick but Carter checks it.
Carter swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Carter throws a nice looking combination but Alves bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Alves scores with a jab to the head.
Alves throws a series of punches but Carter avoids them all with ease.

Carter fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Alves, pushing him back against the cage.
Alves has a couple of punches blocked by Carter.
Carter misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Carter trying to land knees to the body.
Carter lands a hook that snaps the head of Alves backwards.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carter pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Alves just misses with a punch to the body.
Alves throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Carter throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Carter fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Alves avoids it really well and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carter takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Carter closes the distance and clinches.
A left hand lands to the body for Carter.

Carter has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Alves regains guard immediately.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alves working for a triangle but Carter defends it easily.
Carter trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom.

Alves had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Carter defends it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carter with a nice head shot there.

Alves throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Alves is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Carter stays in close to Alves's body and controls the position.

Alves looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Carter controlling from the top position.

Alves escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Alves keeping full guard, as Carter tries to pass.

Alves working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Carter has passed into half guard!
Carter seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Carter is working for a kimura but Alves is defending it quite comfortably.

Carter is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Alves has hold of Carter's hands but Carter slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Alves trying to control but Carter postures up.
Carter is keen to just control but Alves is a slippery customer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Carter is trying to work for a kimura but Alves is defending well.
Carter wants to control but Alves is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Charlie Carter will probably get the nod.
That's time! Alves's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Carter takes one to the side of the head.
Carter digs a good body shot into Alves's ribs.
Carter checks a leg kick nicely.

Carter fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Alves sprawls well initially but Carter persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Carter is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Carter stands up out of the half guard.
Carter fails in his attempt to clinch.
Carter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Alves circles away.
Alves connects with a jab.
Carter on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Alves misses the jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Carter closes the distance and clinches.
Carter stalls.

Carter ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Carter no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Carter looking for a sweep. Not yet Carter, not yet.
Alves wanted to stand there but Carter had control of the position.
Alves stopping the sweep attempt from Carter.
Carter is breathing heavily.
Carter trying to keep a closed guard but Alves is proving a slippery customer.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Alves wants to stand but Carter has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Alves decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Carter, up you get!
Carter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Carter doesn't manage to clinch there - Alves circles away.
Alves seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Alves misses with a straight right.
Carter looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Alves with a jab.

Alves gets tackled into the cage by Carter. Carter maintains the clinch.
Carter looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Carter unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Alves has a couple of punches blocked by Carter.

Alves lands with a right to the head.
Alves on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Alves fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Carter pressing his opponent against the cage.
Alves swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Alves throws a punch but it's blocked by Carter.

Alves lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Carter.

Carter breaks the clinch.
Pedro Alves is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Alves moves into range and connects with a jab.
Alves throws a right hand that Carter ducks under and follows up with a left that Carter also avoids with ease.
Carter is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Alves looks to throw the jab but Carter is out of range.

Carter fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Alves sprawls well initially but Carter persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Alves has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Carter is on him like a limpet, forcing Alves back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Carter breaks from the clinch.
Alves throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Carter has Alves up against the cage in a clinch.
Alves misses with the head strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Pedro Alves will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Carter has Alves pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Alves manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Alves is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Carter tries to throw a body punch but Alves avoids it by throwing Carter back against the cage.

Charlie Carter seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Carter unloads a knee to the mid-section. Alves lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Carter has a couple of punches blocked by Alves.
Carter looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Carter goes for a takedown attempt but Alves pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Pedro Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charlie Carter.
Carter scores with a crisp jab that stopped Alves in his tracks.

Carter clinches up with Alves and pushes him back against the cage.
Alves working aggressively here.
Still in the clinch, Carter scores with a nice short uppercut.
Carter's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Carter stalling the fight.
Carter receives a warning from the referee for stalling.
With the fighters up against the cage, Alves throws an elbow but misses.
Carter tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Alves just stands there and leans against the cage.
Alves lands a left hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alves misses with an elbow over the top.
Carter fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Carter jumps guard but Alves stands there with Carter around his waist. Carter gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Carter tries to pull guard but Alves holds him up against the cage and eventually Carter drops back down to his feet.

Carter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Alves tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Carter avoids it.
Carter is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Carter drops down looking for an ankle pick but Alves pulls his leg out and moves away.
Carter throws a body shot but no joy.
Alves moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Carter avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Alves getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Alves waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Carter.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Alves attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

and Carter counters with a stiff right hand.
Alves keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Alves throws a hook to the side of Carter's head but Carter sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

And that's the end of the fight!
Pedro Alves showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Alves has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
