Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 1, fighting out of New York, Motu Te Tai! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stephen Oyalade! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Columbo Gatti and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick lands from Te Tai that sends Oyalade to the canvas. Oyalade tries to scramble back to his feet but Te Tai brings him back down into side control.
It looks like Stephen Oyalade has been cut. Te Tai decides to take the fight back to the feet. Oyalade fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Te Tai has managed to clinch.
Te Tai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Te Tai swats away the attempt to clinch by Oyalade. Te Tai closes the distance and clinches. Te Tai breaks from the clinch.
Te Tai gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Te Tai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Te Tai throws a sloppy head kick and Oyalade counters with a straight right hand. Oyalade fails with the takedown. Te Tai pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Te Tai lands a high kick to the side of Oyalade's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Te Tai dives into guard, looking to finish.
Oyalade is rocked! Te Tai gets to his feet - Oyalade follows without any prompting. Oyalade is still on wobbly legs! Can Te Tai finish him? Te Tai clinches up with Oyalade and pushes him back against the cage. Te Tai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. A head kick by Te Tai - that's a beauty! Oyalade is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Te Tai can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Motu Te Tai!
