TWGC 26 (155lbs, D2): Sydney Qualifier - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a lightweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Sao Alela (ranked 919 p4p, 0 weight class) and Boris Orlov (ranked 1872 p4p, 209 weight class). Alela comes to the cage accompanied by Raise Hell (MOP). Orlov has chosen K.A.B.O.S.H. - God Of War as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Sao Alela! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Boris Orlov!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Donatello Bradman and Ben Watson.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Alela shoots in looking for a takedown. Orlov tries to sprawl out of it but Alela keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Orlov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Alela has managed to clinch.

Orlov pulls guard effortlessly.

Alela looking to break Orlov's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Orlov remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Alela will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Alela has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Orlov has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Alela is persistently looking for the submission but Orlov is defending it well.

Orlov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Alela has his foot on Orlov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Orlov works his way back into a safe position though.

Orlov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alela swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Orlov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Alela's guard.
Alela makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Alela.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Alela is on top in guard.

Alela drops back, looking for a kneebar! Orlov looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Orlov looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Orlov!
