Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Gracie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Douglas McDougal! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McDougal lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Gracie slips under a jab from McDougal. McDougal uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gracie. McDougal takes a swing at Gracie's ribcage but misses. Gracie misses with a takedown attempt - McDougal sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. McDougal misses with a looping left. Gracie misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Gracie looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for McDougal! McDougal really wants to buck Gracie off and get back to his feet. Gracie looking to secure an arm triangle but McDougal defends it well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gracie looking to ground and pound but McDougal is blocking nicely. McDougal is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Gracie looking to control but McDougal is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Gracie looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but McDougal manages to avoid the submission attempt. Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Gracie is breathing heavily. McDougal is trying to buck Gracie off. McDougal really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gracie is trying to get an arm triangle but McDougal is defending well. McDougal wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Gracie in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. McDougal is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Gracie asserts his dominance and retains side control. Gracie wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McDougal, who protects the arm well. McDougal dodges the ground and pound from Gracie. McDougal taking a bit of punishment here - Gracie scoring with strikes. Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie misses with the ground and pound. Gracie in side control, throwing shots but McDougal defends. Gracie wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McDougal, who protects the arm well. Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. McDougal wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Gracie is chipping away with strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McDougal is trying to buck Gracie off. Gracie is looking to take a break and control but McDougal is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. McDougal stops Gracie from passing to mount. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Gracie stands up and we're back to a striking position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sergio Gracie dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Gracie takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
McDougal throws a good cross that connects.
A slow jab from McDougal misses its intended target. McDougal throws a right and a left that both miss. Gracie shoots for a takedown but McDougal saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Gracie ducks under a wild hook from McDougal. McDougal keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Gracie shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gracie was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! McDougal holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Gracie tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
McDougal is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Gracie working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. McDougal is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. A nice elbow there by Gracie. McDougal blocking the ground and pound. Gracie has control of McDougal's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and McDougal regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Gracie has hold of McDougal's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and McDougal manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
McDougal is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Gracie working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. McDougal turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Gracie off and cradles McDougal's limp body as Gracie celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Sergio Gracie!
