PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Snitch (ranked 2243 p4p, 283 weight class) and Sharven Sheven (ranked 2971 p4p, 356 weight class). Snitch kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is I Wanna Rock. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
23 - 17 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Snitch! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sharven Sheven! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Snitch clobbers Sheven with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Snitch looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Sheven! Sheven wants to get back to his feet. Snitch controls the position from side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Snitch wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sheven keeps working. Snitch is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sheven will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. You can see the frustration on Sheven's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Sheven is not content to let Snitch control the position.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Snitch lands a lovely overhand right. Snitch shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Sheven counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Snitch misses the shot to the body. A little jabbing left from Sheven on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Snitch tries to close the distance and clinch but Sheven swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Snitch shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sheven but Sheven pushes him off and we're back to square one. Despite the aggression on Sheven's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Jon Snitch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Snitch fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Sheven lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Snitch. That's going to take a lot out of him. Snitch looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sheven is fending him off so far but Snitch persists. Nope, Sheven circles away and we're back to standing. As Snitch backs off Sheven throws a huge counter combo but Snitch manages to avoid it all. Snitch throws a leg kick letting Sheven counter with a right hand.
It looks like Jon Snitch has been cut. Sheven takes one on the chin but seems OK.
A jab lands there for Snitch. Sheven tries to keep at a distance but Snitch has taken the fight into the clinch. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Sheven as Snitch tries to tie him up. Sheven tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Snitch's elbow. Sheven misses with some punches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Snitch slowing the pace effectively. A short uppercut from Sheven. Sheven is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Snitch is defending well against a takedown attempt. Sheven prevents the takedown attempt.
Sheven has a couple of punches blocked by Snitch.
The referee calls for Snitch to work.
Sheven is defending well against a takedown attempt. A short right hand to the side of the head by Sheven. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Snitch landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Still in the clinch, Sheven scores with a nice short uppercut. Snitch tries to stall but Sheven uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jon Snitch will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Jon Snitch's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Snitch drives through with a takedown into guard. Snitch trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Snitch advances to half guard. Snitch is figuring out what he wants to do next. Sheven is positioning himself well to prevent Snitch advancing to mount. Snitch is thwarting Sheven's attempts to control the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Snitch wants to free his trapped foot but Sheven is holding on for dear life with his legs. Sheven tries to get to full guard but Snitch has control of the leg. Sheven has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Snitch slows the pace down in half guard. Snitch looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Sheven is looking to improve his position.
Well, if Snitch is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Snitch lands a nice short elbow. Snitch slows the pace down in half guard. Snitch wants to control but Sheven is keeping him busy.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Snitch has his takedown stuffed and Sheven counters with a big right hand! Oh Snitch is in trouble here! Sheven follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sharven Sheven! An out of breath Sharven Sheven thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career. The defeated Jon Snitch had this to say: 'This loss will make me better, I will be back.'.
