PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Wamberto Boaz (ranked 30 p4p, 1 weight class) and Yung Hung Dong (ranked 75 p4p, 6 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Boaz might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Preciso me encontrar. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Yung Hung Dong enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Wamberto Boaz!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yung Hung Dong!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dong closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Dong buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Dong throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Boaz throws a shot to the body.
Boaz takes a swing at Dong's ribcage but misses.
And Dong responds with a good body kick, but Boaz manages to step out the way in time.

and Boaz counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Boaz seems content to control.
Dong has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Boaz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Boaz is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Dong still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Dong has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Boaz is looking to reverse the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dong advances nicely into full mount.
Boaz gets back to half guard.
Boaz wants to control but Dong is keeping busy.

Boaz wants to improve his position but instead Dong has moved into half guard.
Boaz is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Dong jumps into side control!

You can see the frustration on Boaz's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Dong is not going to allow Boaz to sit and survive in this position.

Dong is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Boaz defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Dong is looking for the choke from the back position but Boaz is controlling his hands well.

Dong paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Boaz slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Boaz looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

and Boaz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dong throws a body punch but Boaz moves out of range.
Dong fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Boaz has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Boaz sizes up Dong with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
The crowd cheers as Boaz lands an impressive looking overhand right. Dong doesn't seem phased though.
Dong throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Boaz throws a right hand that Dong ducks under and follows up with a left that Dong also avoids with ease.

Boaz is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Dong throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Yung Hung Dong seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Boaz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Boaz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dong is just riding it out for now. Boaz eventually gives up the hold.

Boaz is looking for a kimura but Dong is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Boaz to get the leverage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Boaz wants to advance to full mount but Dong doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Dong pulls Boaz in to control the position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Wamberto Boaz will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Boaz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dong swivels and escapes.

Dong throws a low kick, looking for Boaz's leg but Boaz calmly moves out of range.

and Dong counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Dong lands a nice leg kick that just misses Boaz's sensitive parts.
Dong walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Boaz throws the left hand but Dong avoids the punch easily.
Boaz's corner calls for a 1-2. Boaz obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Dong throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Dong uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Boaz.

Boaz has hold of Dong's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Dong seems comfortable defending it but Boaz has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Dong is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Dong is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Boaz couldn't care less - he's delighted!
