PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Grant Mcpherson (ranked 6027 p4p, 0 weight class) and Panca Pandu (ranked 4648 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Grant Mcpherson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Panca Pandu!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pandu misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Mcpherson avoids the head kick by Pandu.
Pandu falls off balance throwing a combination

and Mcpherson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pandu's guard.
Pandu throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Mcpherson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Pandu gets tackled into the cage by Mcpherson. Mcpherson maintains the clinch.
Pandu wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Pandu breaks the clinch.
Pandu dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Pandu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Pandu lands a nice looking body shot.
Mcpherson avoids the head kick by Pandu.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mcpherson tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Pandu manages to circle out of the way.
Mcpherson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

and Mcpherson counters with a shoot takedown. Pandu fights it but they end up in guard.

Pandu is looking to stand back up but Mcpherson counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Pandu.
Pandu throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Mcpherson performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Mcpherson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pandu is just riding it out for now. Mcpherson eventually gives up the hold.
Mcpherson content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Mcpherson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Pandu closes the distance and pushes Mcpherson back into the cage.
Pandu wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Pandu jumps guard but Mcpherson stands there with Pandu around his waist. Pandu gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Mcpherson prevents Pandu from breaking the clinch.
Pandu tries to break free but Mcpherson pushes him back against the cage.
Pandu wants to break free but Mcpherson has control.

Mcpherson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Pandu gets tackled into the cage by Mcpherson. Mcpherson maintains the clinch.

Mcpherson jumps guard.
Pandu is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Mcpherson looking for a sweep. Not yet Mcpherson, not yet.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mcpherson holds on and takes a little breather.
Pandu wanted to stand there but Mcpherson had control of the position.

Mcpherson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pandu doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pandu manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mcpherson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Mcpherson looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Pandu throws an elbow that misses. Mcpherson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pandu's guard. Nice move by Mcpherson!

and Mcpherson counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Pandu thinking.

Mcpherson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Pandu shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mcpherson defends it nicely.

Mcpherson tries to pull guard but Pandu won't allow it.
Mcpherson is trying to drag Pandu to the mat but Pandu just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Mcpherson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcpherson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pandu is fighting to break Mcpherson's control of his arms but Mcpherson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Mcpherson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pandu can do to turn this around?
Pandu stands up over Mcpherson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Pandu is looking to stand back up but Mcpherson counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Pandu.

Mcpherson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mcpherson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Mcpherson working over Pandu with some ground and pound. Pandu looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Pandu wants to get back to full guard.
Pandu is trying to escape back to his feet but Mcpherson uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Mcpherson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Pandu to his feet.
Pandu throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Mcpherson.


It looks like Grant Mcpherson has been cut.
Pandu is breathing heavily.

Mcpherson clinches up against the cage.
Pandu misses with a knee to the head.
Pandu has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

A frustrated look appears on Pandu's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Pandu wants to break the clinch but can't.

Mcpherson lands a takedown into guard.
Pandu is striking from the bottom but Mcpherson uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Pandu is trying to stand.

Mcpherson stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Pandu throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mcpherson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Pandu sprawls well initially but Mcpherson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Pandu is looking to get back to is feet but Mcpherson passes into side control.
Pandu is trying to escape the position but Mcpherson is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Grant Mcpherson's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Mcpherson lands a right hook to the body.
Pandu throws a lazy head kick
and Mcpherson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

and Mcpherson counters with a single leg into guard. Pandu didn't expect that.

Mcpherson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mcpherson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Pandu can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mcpherson controls the pace.
Mcpherson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcpherson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pandu for as long as he can get away with.
Pandu takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Mcpherson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Mcpherson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mcpherson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Mcpherson stands up.
Mcpherson digs a good hook to Pandu's body.

Pandu fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mcpherson, pushing him back against the cage.

Mcpherson has picked Pandu up - he's going for a ride! Mcpherson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Pandu pushes Mcpherson off but Mcpherson dives into side control.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mcpherson stands up and beckons Pandu to his feet.

Mcpherson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Pandu wants to get back to his feet but Mcpherson is dominant here and he's now got Pandu's back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pandu is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Mcpherson is working for a rear naked choke. Pandu is not defending it well and Mcpherson has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Pandu refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Pandu's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Grant Mcpherson!
