Coming up we have a lightweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Victor Szczęsny (ranked 2155 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dale Holloway (ranked 7024 p4p, 556 weight class). Dale Holloway told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 1 losses; Victor Szczęsny! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 1 losses; Dale Holloway! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Szczęsny clinches. Holloway drops down looking for an ankle pick but Szczęsny pulls his leg out and moves away.
Szczęsny clinches. Holloway is trying to trip Szczęsny. He has hold of a leg but Szczęsny is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Holloway persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Szczęsny (0) vs (2) Holloway Szczęsny pulls Holloway in close to his closed guard and prevents Holloway from doing any damage or advancing position. My spies in Five Round Fight Club NY (50 max) inform me that Holloway has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Holloway wants to pass the guard but Szczęsny is keeping the position. Szczęsny really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Szczęsny looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Holloway passes into side control.
Score +3 for passing guard: Szczęsny (0) vs (5) Holloway The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Szczęsny regains half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Holloway is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Szczęsny defends it well. Holloway is looking for a kimura here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Szczęsny makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Szczęsny. Holloway drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Szczęsny manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Holloway has Szczęsny in his guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Szczęsny (2) vs (5) Holloway Szczęsny wants to control from the top but Holloway keeps moving. Szczęsny will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Szczęsny is pushing down on Holloway's leg trying to pass to half guard. Holloway is fighting to maintain full guard but Szczęsny has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Szczęsny is trying to work for a kimura but Holloway is defending well.
Szczęsny in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Holloway tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Szczęsny!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Victor Szczęsny! Victor Szczęsny opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
