Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shawn VanDam (ranked 5309 p4p, 384 weight class) and Leon Quinones (ranked 3056 p4p, 269 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shawn VanDam! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Leon Quinones! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Peter Branson and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! VanDam closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. VanDam tries to move into full mount but can't pass Quinones's legs. Quinones is not content to let VanDam control the position. VanDam is really struggling to control Quinones but he's trying to hold on to the position. Quinones tries to bench press VanDam off him but VanDam keeps the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The referee asks VanDam politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. VanDam prefers to stall for the moment though. Quinones trying his best to control but VanDam has mounted him. Quinones gets back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. VanDam not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. VanDam could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Quinones is doing well to control the position and prevent VanDam from advancing to side control. VanDam wants to lay and pray for a moment but Quinones keeps working. It looks like VanDam is going to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Quinones is controlling VanDam's trapped leg to prevent VanDam from advancing to side control. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Quinones tries to roll over but VanDam keeps him under control. VanDam stalling away here and it's allowed Quinones to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. VanDam postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Quinones is adopting a defensive guard.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. VanDam darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shawn VanDam dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Quinones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming VanDam to the mat! VanDam manages to get full guard. Quinones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Quinones's corner is telling him to maintain position. Quinones tries to free his leg and advance position but VanDam is retaining full guard. Quinones is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. VanDam is trying to control the position but Quinones postures up. Quinones trying to control the position from guard on top but VanDam is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quinones controls the pace of the fight for a moment. VanDam lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Quinones is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. VanDam definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Quinones is looking to advance position but VanDam won't allow it. Quinones performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Quinones wants to pass the guard but VanDam is defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Quinones is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Quinones seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but VanDam does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Well, if Quinones is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Leon Quinones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
VanDam closes the distance and pushes Quinones back into the cage. Quinones pulls guard effortlessly. VanDam wanted to stand there but Quinones had control of the position. Leon Quinones has got the better of the ground game so far. VanDam is stalling in the full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. VanDam trying to control the position from guard on top but Quinones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. That's one minute gone in the round. VanDam in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. VanDam trying to control but Quinones is working from the bottom. Quinones pulls VanDam in close to prevent any damage. Quinones working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because VanDam has passed into half guard!

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. VanDam frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. VanDam throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Quinones tries to hold on but VanDam postures up. Quinones is looking to improve his position but VanDam isn't that keen on the idea. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that's the end of the fight! Shawn VanDam showed his dominance in that final round. Well VanDam has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Shawn VanDam wins by unanimous decision! After the fight, Shawn VanDam was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
