Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michel Pereira (ranked 1208 p4p, 159 weight class) and Davido Monto (ranked 1493 p4p, 194 weight class). Pereira kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is J.Balvin, Willy William - Mi Gente. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michel Pereira! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Davido Monto! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pereira clinches up against the cage. Pereira is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Monto is defending well for now. Pereira with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Monto drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Michel Pereira has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Davido Monto. Monto jumps guard but Pereira stands there with Monto around his waist. Monto gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Monto isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Pereira stacks Monto on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Pereira! Monto is looking to regain half guard here but Pereira keeps moving and retains side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monto manages to work his way to half guard, despite Pereira's best efforts. Monto tries to get to full guard but Pereira has control of the leg. Pereira knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Monto on the ground. Monto regains full guard. Nicely done. Monto looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Pereira got a little sloppy there for a moment and Monto has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pereira has managed to get both his arms back between Monto's legs - danger averted. Pereira wants to stand but Monto is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Monto looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Pereira has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Monto is proving hard to escape from.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Monto tries to improve position but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Monto throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Monto is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Monto has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Pereira wants to stand but Monto is controlling his arm. Monto tries to improve position but can't. Monto manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Monto looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Monto missing with punches from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Davido Monto dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Pereira swings for the body but Monto moves out of range.
Monto takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Pereira thuds a left hand into Monto's body. Michel Pereira is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Pereira connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Monto momentarily.

and Monto counters with a single leg into guard. Pereira didn't expect that. Monto tries to free his leg and advance position but Pereira is retaining full guard. Monto drops back looking for a leg! Pereira is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pereira manages to kick Monto off! Monto jumps back into Pereira's guard. Pereira utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Monto throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pereira works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monto working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Pereira's head. Monto throws an elbow that misses. Pereira uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Monto's guard. Nice move by Pereira!
Pereira is sitting in close to Monto's body. Monto has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Pereira is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Pereira is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Monto.
