Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Augusto Pinochet! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Steel! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Richard Clark and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steel scores with the left hand. Pinochet knows he should have avoided that one. Pinochet takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Pinochet has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Pinochet there as he acknowledges the shot. Pinochet gets in close and instigates a clinch. Pinochet tries to pull guard but Steel holds him up against the cage and eventually Pinochet drops back down to his feet.
A nice left hand lands by Steel.
A short uppercut from Steel. Steel tries to break the clinch but Pinochet is controlling the position. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Steel creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Steel lands with a light punch inside. Steel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Pinochet is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Steel bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Pinochet's head backwards. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pinochet is looking to clinch. Steel looks like he wants to counter punch here. We've been hearing reports that Pinochet has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Steel scores with a jab. Pinochet acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Pinochet tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Steel paws at him with a jab and circles away. Pinochet closes the distance and clinches. Steel lands a body punch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steel's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Steel works Pinochet's body with a nice hook. Sloppy strikes from Steel. Steel lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Pinochet backs up against the cage.
Pinochet takes the fight into the clinch. Steel lands a left hand that snaps the head of Pinochet backwards. Steel tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Pinochet manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Steel sitting in guard here, content to control. Steel's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Pinochet has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Steel can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Steel is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Steel trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Steel is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Steel is continuing to stall. Pinochet is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Steel is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. That's three minutes gone in the round. Steel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pinochet swivels though and keeps the full guard. Steel showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Pinochet had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Steel defends it easily. Pinochet is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Steel defends well. Steel is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Steel trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Steel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pinochet. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Pinochet is looking to cinch up a triangle. Steel throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Pinochet's body to avoid the submission. Pinochet has instead reached around Steel's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Pinochet arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Augusto Pinochet! Augusto Pinochet was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
