PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Corey Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julio Amoroso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Beat It. The crowd seem to be enjoying Amoroso's choice of entrance music: Renegades of Funk - Rage Against The Machine. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corey Johnson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Julio Amoroso!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson keeps the fight on the outside.

Amoroso looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Johnson!

Amoroso goes for an armbar but Johnson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Johnson.
Johnson passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Amoroso is looking to regain half guard here but Johnson keeps moving and retains side control.
Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Amoroso keeps working.
Amoroso gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Amoroso sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson wants to pass to mount but Amoroso is defending the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Amoroso is looking to improve his position but Johnson isn't that keen on the idea.
Amoroso is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Johnson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Amoroso's face.
Johnson wants to take Amoroso's back here but Amoroso is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Amoroso tries to hold on but Johnson pushes him away.

Johnson is going olschool here, as he tries to force Amoroso to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Amoroso shrugs it off.
Amoroso gets back to half guard.
Johnson wants to free his trapped foot but Amoroso is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Johnson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Johnson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Amoroso is surviving well by controlling Johnson's body position as best he can.
Amoroso tries to reverse the position but Johnson maintains control.
Johnson is trying to take his opponent's back.
Amoroso keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Amoroso stops Johnson from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Corey Johnson will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Amoroso shoots for a takedown but Johnson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Johnson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Amoroso has given up his back here. Will Johnson look for the submission or keep pounding away?

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Johnson's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Johnson has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Amoroso turns into Johnson and is now in his guard.

Amoroso postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Johnson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Amoroso, into his guard.
Amoroso is breathing heavily.

Johnson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Amoroso knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Amoroso keeps working.
Johnson is looking to advance position but Amoroso won't allow it.
Johnson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Amoroso does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Johnson tries to pass to full mount but Amoroso defends it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Amoroso gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Amoroso gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Johnson wants to pass the guard but Amoroso is keeping the position.

Amoroso throws his legs up looking for a submission but Johnson uses it to pass to side control.

Johnson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Johnson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Amoroso is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Johnson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Amoroso is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Johnson wants to take a breather but Amoroso manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Johnson.

Amoroso has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Johnson is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Amoroso.
Amoroso looks to move to half guard but instead Johnson has passed into mount! Damn!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


The fighters circle momentarily. Johnson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Johnson avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Johnson lands with a hook. Amoroso tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Amoroso staying out of range there.
Amoroso shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Johnson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Johnson connects with a looping right hand.
Julio Amoroso seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Amoroso takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Johnson lands a nice shot to the body.
Johnson drops Amoroso with a beautiful combination! Amoroso stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Johnson is looking for the KO!

Johnson drives through with a takedown into guard.
Amoroso is still in real trouble! Can Johnson finish him?
Johnson is stalling in the full guard.
Johnson stands and throws Amoroso's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Johnson tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Amoroso seems to have recovered his senses.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Amoroso wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Amoroso wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Johnson has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Amoroso's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Amoroso is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Johnson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Corey Johnson!
