Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnathon Ray (ranked 6791 p4p, 579 weight class) and xu Chen (ranked 6877 p4p, 581 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnathon Ray! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, xu Chen! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ray lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. A combination from Chen does no damage. Chen tries to clinch up. Ray tries to clinch up. Ray is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Ray closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Chen has Ray pushed against the cage. Chen tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Ray digs a right hand underneath Chen's ribcage. Chen let out a lung full of air as it connected. Chen blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Chen misses with a short punch on the inside. Ray wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Chen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Ray scores with a punch to the head. A left and a right from Ray both land. Nice combination. Ray closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Chen is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round. Chen moves into range and clinches up with Ray. Chen manages to break the clinch.
Chen takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Ray wants to break the clinch but can't.
Chen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Ray avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Ray on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Ray is trying to push Chen away but Chen has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Chen is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Johnathon Ray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of xu Chen. Chen tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ray smiles and moves away.
A head kick misses from Chen. Ray shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Chen eats them both and turns towards Ray to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Ray definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Ray takes the fight into the clinch. Chen tries to pull guard but Ray won't allow it.
Chen told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight. Chen can't get the takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Ray is trying to break free. Ray content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Ray gets a clinch. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Chen using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Both guys are working to get underhooks. Chen jumps guard and drags Ray to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Ray trying to control the position from guard on top but Chen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ray is really struggling to control Chen but he's trying to hold on to the position. Ray with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Ray has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Ray trying to control but Chen is working from the bottom. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Chen can do anything to dispel that myth. Ray engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Ray stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chen swivels though and keeps the full guard. Chen wants to stand but Ray is controlling the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. A left and a right from Ray both land. Nice combination. Chen darts in and clinches Ray up against the cage. Chen decides to pull guard. Chen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Chen keeping moving, preventing Ray from controlling successfully. Chen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Chen takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Ray throws a right and a left that both miss. Chen tries to clinch up enabling Ray to counter with a crisp jab. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chen moves out of range of the leg kick from Ray. Chen fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Ray tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chen swivels and escapes. Chen is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Chen takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Ray cracks Chen with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Nice sprawl there from Ray as Chen shoots in. Chen is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ray sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Johnathon Ray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of xu Chen. Chen shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Chen connects with a nice short shot to Ray's temple. Chen is breathing heavily. Ray trying to control but Chen postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ground and pound from Chen. Ray wants to control but Chen is keeping busy.
Chen controlling the pace. Chen wants to take a breather but Ray is having none of it. Chen is thwarting Ray's attempts to control the position. Chen controlling the action here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Ray tries to roll over but Chen keeps him under control. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Ray has hold of Chen's hands but Chen slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Ray wants to control but Chen is keeping busy.
Ray is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Ray trying to control here.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A jab from Ray finds it's way through Chen's defenses. A thudding body kick lands there by Chen!
Ray stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ray wants it to stay on the feet. Ray tries to clinch up but Chen circles away and keeps his distance. Ray swinging wildly here.
Ray scores with a one two! Chen had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Chen clinches with his opponent.

Ray jumps guard but Chen turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Ray is looking to control Chen's arms but Chen gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ray has his back to the cage. Chen drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ray gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Ray wants to get back to striking at distance but Chen won't allow it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Chen drops down looking for an ankle pick but Ray pulls his leg out and moves away.
Chen shoots for a takedown but Ray saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Chen swats away the attempt to clinch by Ray. Chen takes a shot right to the bread basket. Ray swats away the attempt to clinch by Chen. Ray went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Ray stalks Chen and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Chen's face. Chen staggers backwards, shaken. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ray throws a right and a left that Chen avoids nicely. Ray connects with a nice looking jab.
Chen is still on wobbly legs! Can Ray finish him? Chen wants to clinch but Ray slips to the side and Ray counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Ray clinches up against the cage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Johnathon Ray dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Ray changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chen tries to avoid it but Ray manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chen to the ground. Chen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Chen throws a counter combo. Johnathon Ray is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Chen throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Chen seems to have recovered his senses.
It looks like Johnathon Ray has been cut. xu Chen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Chen looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Ray! Chen controlling from side mount. Ray takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Ray parries the strikes from Chen easily there. Chen is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Ray to escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The referee asks Chen politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Chen prefers to stall for the moment though. Chen wants to control but Ray is keeping him busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chen is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Ray's shoulder. That is not cool. Ray can't do much from the bottom here. Chen scoring with punches from side control. Ray is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Chen stands up and beckons Ray to his feet. A punch combination from Ray misses. Chen clinches with his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A left and a right from Ray both land. Nice combination. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Ray lands a nice hook to Chen's body. Chen takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Chen throws a right and a left that both miss. Ray appears to be looking for a big counter. Ray feints a jab promting Chen to slip. Ray then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Chen slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ray throws a good cross that connects.

Chen has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Chen throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Chen closes the distance and pushes Ray back into the cage. Chen pulls guard effortlessly. Chen wriggles free and stands up. Ray dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ray circles away from the clinch attempt.
Chen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Ray counters with a straight punch to the midsection. A head kick misses from Chen. Nice takedown defense from Chen. No joy for Ray on that attempt. Chen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Ray scores with a decent looking hook. Chen tries to clinch up and Ray counters with a straight punch to the midsection. And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Johnathon Ray. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ray, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
