Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Cadete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Woli Gema (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jorge Cadete!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Woli Gema!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cadete keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gema misses with a two punch combination.
Cadete takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Gema lands a high kick!

Cadete fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gema sprawls well initially but Cadete persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Cadete performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Cadete wants to pass to mount but Gema is defending the position.
Gema is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cadete seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Cadete is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Gema!

You get the feeling that Gema really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Gema is bucking up trying to escape but Cadete cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Cadete tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Gema is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Cadete tries to control but Gema wriggling away.

Cadete moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Gema has worked his arm free - good work by Gema!

Gema looks gassed!

Gema is trying to escape the position but Cadete is controlling the position.

Cadete is trying to get an arm triangle but Gema is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gema is looking for a sweep.
Cadete trying to control the position but Gema is working away.

Gema tries to escape but Cadete is in control.

Cadete tries for a kimura but Gema is defending well.
Cadete creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gema sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Gema is pushing Cadete's head away, looking to escape. Cadete manages to hold on to the position though.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Cadete shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Cadete was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Cadete goes for an armbar but Gema turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Gema.

Cadete scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Gema wants to clinch up but Cadete keeps it at a distance.
Gema tries to clinch but Cadete is having none of it.

Cadete gets the takedown into side control.

Cadete working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Gema is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cadete is controlling him well.

Gema throws a nice looking combination but Cadete bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Cadete avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gema misses with a body kick.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Cadete.
Gema wants to control but Cadete postures up.
Cadete is chipping away with strikes.

Cadete closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cadete lands in his opponent's guard.

Cadete controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Gema is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cadete is controlling him.
Gema can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cadete controls the pace.

Cadete postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

so Cadete counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Cadete is stalling in the full guard.

Cadete drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gema manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cadete has Gema in his guard.

Cadete looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Cadete trying to keep a closed guard but Gema is proving a slippery customer.
Gema would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Cadete had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Gema is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Cadete Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Gema's back instead.

Cadete is looking for the choke from the back position but Gema is controlling his hands well.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Cadete ducks under a wild hook from Gema.
Gema checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Gema stalks Cadete and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Cadete's face. Cadete staggers backwards, shaken.
Cadete defending well as Gema loads up on a big left hand.
Gema throws a series of punches but Cadete moves out of range.
Gema swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Cadete shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Cadete was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jorge Cadete overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cadete lands a nice shot to the head.

Cadete working for a guillotine from mount but Gema is in no mood to give up.
Gema is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cadete controlling his opponent.
Cadete throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Gema tries to hold on but Cadete postures up.
Cadete landing punches.
Cadete trying to control but Gema is having none of it.
Gema's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Cadete looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cadete tries to control but Gema wriggling away.

Cadete is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Gema rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cadete moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Cadete rushes Gema and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cadete is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Gema pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Gema wants to get back to striking at distance but Cadete won't allow it.
Cadete jumps guard but Gema stands there with Cadete around his waist. Cadete gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Cadete has hold of one of Gema's legs. Gema is fighting the takedown attempt but Cadete gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Cadete won't allow Gema to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gema keeping moving, preventing Cadete from controlling successfully.
Cadete trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gema is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cadete is controlling him.
Cadete works over Gema with some ground and pound from guard.
Cadete stops Gema from standing up.

Cadete thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Cadete won't allow Gema to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Cadete closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Gema bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Woli Gema has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cadete takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cadete, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
