The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Cruz fails with an attempt to clinch.
Engles throws a right hand that Cruz ducks under and follows up with a left that Cruz also avoids with ease.
Engles rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cruz moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Engles misses with a few strikes there.
Cruz takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Engles throws a series of punches but Cruz moves out of range.
Engles with a nice cross.
Engles throws a right and a left that both miss.
Engles swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Engles rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cruz moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Engles throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cruz.

Rich Engles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cruz scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Cruz frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Engles holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Cruz tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Engles is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Cruz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cruz has the hooks in. Engles is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Cruz is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Engles knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Engles for a finish.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cruz looking to control but Engles is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Engles is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Engles bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Cruz trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Engles trying to stand up but can't free himself from Cruz's guard.
Engles won't allow Cruz to sweep him here.
Engles wanted to stand there but Cruz had control of the position.

Cruz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Engles doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Engles manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cruz lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Engles!

Cruz jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Engles manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Cruz is working to tighten is grip on Engles's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Engles has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Cruz is really squeezing tight and eventually Engles passes out! Cruz breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
