Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Boyd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, William John! The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Ron Honeybunn and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boyd gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Boyd trying to keep a closed guard but John is proving a slippery customer.
John gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. John dives in and scores a takedown into Boyd's guard. John looking to control the position here, rather than advance. John won't allow Boyd to sweep him here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Boyd trying to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. John working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. John is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Boyd is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Boyd has escaped and now he's on top! John is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. John wants to take a breather but Boyd is having none of it. John slows the pace down in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. John thows a huge punch but Boyd dodges it nicely.
John controlling the action here. John is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Boyd to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. John seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. John stopping the sweep attempt from Boyd. John scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. John is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. It looks like John might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Boyd could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Nice sprawl there from John as Boyd shoots in. Boyd avoids a kick to the body.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! John drives through with a takedown into guard. Boyd has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. John has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Boyd is breathing heavily. John has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Boyd clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
William John dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
John closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - John lands in his opponent's guard.
Boyd is rocked! John is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Oh Boyd is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! John drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and John jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. John arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Boyd's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). William John!
