Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jamey Valentine! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mark Rodgers! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rodgers dives in and scores a takedown into Valentine's guard. Rodgers is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Rodgers looking to sit in guard and control but Valentine gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Valentine throwing strikes from guard but Rodgers blocks nicely. Rodgers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Valentine scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Rodgers tries to land a sweep but no joy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Valentine is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Rodgers is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Valentine is controlling him.

Rodgers had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Valentine defends it easily. Valentine is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Rodgers bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Valentine's guard. Rodgers stops Valentine from standing up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Valentine keeping moving, preventing Rodgers from controlling successfully. Valentine looking for a sweep. Not yet Valentine, not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rodgers showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Rodgers working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Valentine is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Valentine keeping moving, preventing Rodgers from controlling successfully.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Valentine gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Rodgers is trying to control the position but Valentine postures up. Valentine not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Valentine seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Rodgers for as long as he can get away with. Rodgers is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Valentine wants to control from the top but Rodgers keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rodgers striking off his back but it's not causing Valentine any problems. Rodgers is looking for a triangle but Valentine pushes his legs off easily.
Valentine seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Valentine knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rodgers on the ground. Valentine stopping the sweep attempt from Rodgers. Valentine slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Valentine continues to stall. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Valentine avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Rodgers tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Valentine was well out of range. Poor timing from Rodgers. Valentine wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Rodgers wants to clinch. Valentine could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Rodgers changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Valentine looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Valentine parries the strikes from Rodgers easily there. Rodgers is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Valentine to escape.
Rodgers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Valentine keeps working. Rodgers is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Valentine knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rodgers tries to score with some ground and pound. Valentine controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Valentine is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Valentine wants to get back to his feet. Rodgers is working for a submission of some sort.
Rodgers uses his free foot to push down on Valentine's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Valentine.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Valentine is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Rodgers looking to ground and pound but Valentine is blocking nicely. Valentine is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Valentine tries to improve his position but instead Rodgers has taken his back! Valentine is trying to stand back up. Will Rodgers go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
That's three minutes gone in the round. Valentine is trying to get back to his feet but Rodgers has full control of the position and if anything, Valentine has just worked his way into a worse spot. Rodgers has his opponent's back but Valentine is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Rodgers. Rodgers drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Valentine is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Valentine is not content to let Rodgers control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rodgers tries to advance to mount but Valentine denies him. Rodgers moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Rodgers wants to stand but Valentine is controlling his arm. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mark Rodgers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Valentine's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Lucky escape for Valentine because Rodgers loaded up on that one. Valentine tries to reverse the position but Rodgers maintains control. Rodgers controlling from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Rodgers wants to get back to his feet but Valentine is holding on tight.
Rodgers is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Rodgers!
