PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 1485 p4p, 218 weight class) and Dom Severini (ranked 2010 p4p, 259 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gracie might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Olha a Explosão. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Royce Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dom Severini!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Darius Henderson and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Severini looks to land a left hand but Gracie moved out of range nicely.
Severini scores with a decent looking hook.


It looks like Royce Gracie has been cut.
Severini throws a jab but it's blocked by Gracie.
Severini throws a looping overhand right but Gracie ducks down to avoid it.
Severini throws out a powerful jab.
Severini uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gracie.
Severini moves into range and connects with a jab.
Gracie tries for a takedown but Severini circles away easily
and Severini counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Gracie walks into a straight right hand from Severini.
Gracie misses the shot to the body.
Gracie staying out of range there.
Gracie looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Gracie throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gracie tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Severini was well out of range. Poor timing from Gracie.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Severini throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Severini falls off balance throwing a combination

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Severini has his feet on Gracie's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Severini lands with a hook. Gracie tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Severini steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gracie.
Gracie throws a hook but Severini blocks it.
Severini has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Gracie takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown. Severini tries to sprawl out of it but Gracie keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Severini manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Severini stuns Gracie with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A jab lands there for Severini.
Nice takedown defense from Severini. No joy for Gracie on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Royce Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Severini throws a series of punches but Gracie moves out of range.
Severini misses with a looping left.
Gracie takes one to the side of the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gracie scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Severini sneaks out the side door and pushes Gracie away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Severini misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gracie dives in and grabs Severini's left leg, looking for a takedown. Severini pushes down on Gracie's head and hops out.
Severini will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Severini looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Severini connects with the punch.
Severini looks to throw the jab but Gracie is out of range.
Severini swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Gracie is working for a kimura but Severini is defending it quite comfortably.
Severini is trying to get back to full guard.
Severini really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Severini keeps trying to improve his position.

Gracie is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Severini looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Severini is defending against the submission attempts here by Gracie.

Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Severini defends the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Gracie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Severini sees it coming and defends easily.

Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Severini is defending against the submission attempts here by Gracie.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dom Severini dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Royce Gracie's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


The fighters circling - Gracie throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Nice body punch from Gracie.
Gracie shoots in for a double leg but Severini sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Severini with a nice cross.
A big left from Severini misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gracie.
Severini is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Gracie with a body shot.
Severini lands a body shot.
Severini might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Gracie shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Severini's corner calls for a 1-2. Severini obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Severini punishes Gracie's body with a nice straight punch.
Severini throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gracie appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Severini lands a nice shot to the body.
Severini misses with a looping right.
Gracie slips a jab and a cross from Severini.
Severini paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Gracie is looking to wear down Severini with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Nice defenses there by Gracie.
Gracie gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Gracie fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Severini avoids it really well and circles away.

Dom Severini seems to be getting the better of the standup.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gracie swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Severini has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Severini rushes Gracie with punches - Gracie moves straight backwards instead of circling and gets clipped by the second strike... and the third... and the fourth! Oh, Gracie goes down! Severini follows up with more strikes and the ref steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:16 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dom Severini!
Our winner, Dom Severini, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
