Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcos Hewitt (ranked 4823 p4p, 0 weight class) and Odero Onango (ranked 5313 p4p, 0 weight class). Onango has chosen URALYA as his entrance music. Odero Onango has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Hewitt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Odero Onango!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Onango wants to land a leg kick but Hewitt is out of range.
Hewitt seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Onango looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hewitt.

Hewitt has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Odero Onango seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Onango shoots in for a double leg but Hewitt sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Onango with a poor takedown

and Hewitt counters by moving into the clinch.

Hewitt pulls Onango into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Onango thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hewitt wants to stand but Onango is controlling the position.

Onango got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hewitt has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Onango has managed to get both his arms back between Hewitt's legs - danger averted.
Onango stops Hewitt from standing up.

Hewitt is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Hewitt has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Onango off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Onango misses with a double jab.
As Onango tries to get set, Hewitt tries to push him back and clinch up but Onango manages to avoid the attempt.

Hewitt looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
It looks like Hewitt is going to stand back up.

Onango keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hewitt is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Hewitt throws a strike but Onango avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Hewitt wants to get up but he can't break Onango's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Hewitt drives through and clinches with Onango against the cage.
Hewitt's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Hewitt's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A head kick by Onango misses
and Hewitt connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Hewitt bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hewitt tries to stand but Onango is controlling his head.

Hewitt decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Hewitt gets the takedown into side control.
Hewitt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hewitt wants to stand but Onango has his arm trapped.
Hewitt taking a breather here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Hewitt shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Hewitt wants to get back to his feet.
Hewitt throwing shots but Onango is blocking nicely.
Onango is breathing heavily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hewitt is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Onango felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Hewitt keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Onango throws a head kick that misses

and Hewitt counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Hewitt drags the fight down to the ground.

Hewitt is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hewitt pulls Onango in close to prevent any damage.
Hewitt wants to stand up but Onango is controlling him.
Onango throwing strikes but missing.
Hewitt looking for a sweep. Not yet Hewitt, not yet.

Hewitt is looking for a triangle but Onango pushes his legs off easily.
Onango trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hewitt seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Onango is pushing down on Hewitt's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hewitt is fighting to maintain full guard but Onango has managed to sneak the leg through.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hewitt is controlling Onango's trapped leg to prevent Onango from advancing to side control.
Onango throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Hewitt to regain full guard.
Hewitt pulls Onango in to control the position.

Hewitt is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Onango defends well.

Hewitt has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Onango has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Onango wants a takedown but no success here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hewitt is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Hewitt's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Onango throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hewitt's waist but Hewitt gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Onango off to one side.

Hewitt shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Onango manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hewitt wants to get up but he can't break Onango's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Onango looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hewitt puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Hewitt wanted to stand there but Onango had control of the position.

Hewitt decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Hewitt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Hewitt is looking to stand up but Onango won't let him.

Hewitt decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Onango, up you get!

Hewitt changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Onango looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Hewitt stands up and beckons Onango to his feet.

Hewitt drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Hewitt controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hewitt accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hewitt wants to stand but Onango is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hewitt is in close to Onango's body, working some short punches and elbows.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hewitt throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Odero Onango has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Marcos Hewitt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Hewitt goes for a double leg but Onango avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Onango continues to drive forward.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marcos Hewitt showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hewitt has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
