PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim Duggan (ranked 2949 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Piano (ranked 5384 p4p, 404 weight class). Duggan comes into the arena with Five Finger Death Punch- Bad Company blaring out of the sound system. Piano is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: AC/DC - Night Prowler. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim Duggan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Don Piano!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Columbo Gatti and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Piano doesn't manage to clinch there - Duggan circles away.
Duggan throws a low kick but Piano avoids it.
Duggan scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Piano has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Piano there as he acknowledges the shot.
Piano keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Duggan lands a nice looking kick to the body. Piano takes a step back to recover.
Duggan swats away the attempt to clinch by Piano.
Piano takes a kick to the side of the head.
Duggan throws a hook but Piano avoids it easily.
Piano closes the distance but Duggan moves to the side

and Duggan counters with a shoot takedown. Piano fights it but they end up in guard.
Duggan works over Piano with some ground and pound from guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Duggan chips away with some ground and pound.
Duggan trying to move into half guard but instead Piano has managed to sweep!

Piano won't allow Duggan to sweep him here.
Duggan has control of Piano's left arm, preventing Piano from doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Duggan is on top in guard.

Piano not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Duggan throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Duggan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Duggan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Duggan with a flurry of punches that miss.
Duggan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Piano works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Duggan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Duggan lands a couple of digs.
Duggan postures up and lands a big shot to Piano's brow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Duggan lands a couple of elbows.

Duggan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Duggan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Duggan stands and throws Piano's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Duggan lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Piano down.


Piano is rocked!
Duggan scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Piano is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Duggan can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jim Duggan!
A relieved looking Jim Duggan thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
