The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pate looks to score with a jab to the body but Romero is just out of range.

Romero throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Pate closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Pate is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Romero is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Romero is looking to regain half guard here but Pate keeps moving and retains side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pate gets to mount! Romero was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Pate jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Romero is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Romero and Pate has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Pate is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Romero has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Romero!

Pate flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Pate looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Romero pushes past his half guard into mount!
Romero takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Romero is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Pate is surviving well by controlling Romero's body position as best he can.

Well Romero has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
