Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Don Juan Matus (ranked 2310 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Gaspar (ranked 2225 p4p, 119 weight class). Matus's entrance music is Crow Spirit. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
34 - 18 - 4, fighting out of Los Angeles, Don Juan Matus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Diego Gaspar! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gaspar fails with the takedown letting Matus counter with a right hand. An inside leg kick lands from Matus. Gaspar dives in for a single leg takedown but Matus sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Gaspar shoots and misses and Matus counters with a straight right hand. Don Juan Matus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Gaspar. Gaspar tries to clinch there but Matus circles away.
Nice uppercut lands for Matus. That snapped Gaspar's head back.
Gaspar shoots for a double leg takedown but Matus sprawls well. He's pushed Gaspar's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Matus scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Gaspar tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Matus manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Matus defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gaspar. Gaspar shoots in for a takedown but Matus shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. A lazy left from Matus finds it's target. Matus's jab looks to have found its range, popping Gaspar under the eye. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Matus throws a nice outside leg kick. Gaspar takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Gaspar dives in for a single leg takedown but Matus sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Gaspar shoots and misses and Matus connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matus drives through and clinches with Gaspar against the cage.
Gaspar tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Matus smiles and moves away.
Matus scores with a nice head shot. Gaspar instigates a clinch. A short body shot lands from Matus as the two fighters clinch.
Matus tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Matus working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Knees to the body from Matus.

Matus softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Matus pushes Gaspar back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Gaspar tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Matus just stands there and leans against the cage. Matus leaning against his opponent.

A nice right hand lands inside from Matus. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Matus leaning his opponent against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gaspar jumps into guard, dragging Matus to the mat.
Matus content to stall in guard here. Matus won't allow Gaspar to sweep him here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Matus is stalling in the full guard. Gaspar escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Matus gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Gaspar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Matus controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Gaspar wants to hit a switch here but Matus passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Gaspar there! Matus avoids the attempt from Gaspar to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Gaspar can't escape the position.
Gaspar wants to control but Matus is having none of it. Gaspar working to try and regain half guard.
Gaspar wants to hold on but Matus pushes him away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Matus looking to control and managing it successfully. Gaspar sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Don Juan Matus dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Gaspar moves in looking to clinch but Matus pushes him off. Gaspar tries to clinch and Matus counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Gaspar shoots in for a takedown but Matus shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Gaspar has taken the fight to the clinch.

Don Juan Matus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Gaspar. Gaspar pushes off an throws an elbow but Matus leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage. Gaspar looking to slow down the pace here. A short right from Matus. A short left from Matus. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gaspar is trying to pull guard but Matus turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Gaspar tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Matus avoids it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matus escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Matus scores with a decent looking hook. Matus fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Gaspar on the side of the head. Nice takedown defense from Matus. No joy for Gaspar on that attempt. Matus ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Gaspar gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Matus counters with a nice body shot. Matus wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Don Juan Matus is winning the standup battle so far. Gaspar fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Matus avoids it really well and circles away. Gaspar is breathing heavily. Matus scores with a shot to the body.
Gaspar shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Matus pinned against the cage. Matus gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gaspar fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Gaspar shoots and misses and Matus counters with a good, hard body kick but Gaspar shrugs it off. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Matus jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Matus getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Gaspar shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Matus as he avoids it easily. Matus throws out a powerful jab. Gaspar fails with an attempt to clinch.
Matus digs a good body shot into Gaspar's ribs. Gaspar takes a body punch but keeps moving. Gaspar fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Matus, pushing him back against the cage. A right handed body shot lands from Matus.
Matus lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Matus lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. A right hand to the body from Matus.

Gaspar blocking some punches.
Gaspar tries to pull guard but Matus forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Gaspar tries to pull guard but Matus holds him up against the cage and eventually Gaspar drops back down to his feet.
Gaspar is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Matus to keep the fight standing. Matus lands a left hand.

Gaspar has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gaspar there as he acknowledges the shot. Gaspar keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Gaspar is rocked! Gaspar fails with the takedown and Matus holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Gaspar tries to pull guard but Matus forces him back to his feet, against the cage. A quick uppercut on the inside from Matus. Matus digs a right hand underneath Gaspar's ribcage. Gaspar let out a lung full of air as it connected. A quick uppercut on the inside from Matus. Gaspar is still on wobbly legs! Can Matus finish him? Gaspar struggles to land a body shot inside as Matus controls his hands.
Gaspar is trying to maintain a safe position but Matus gets an underhook and turns Gaspar into the cage. Gaspar seems to have recovered his senses. Gaspar throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Gaspar is trying to pull guard but Matus has him pressed against the cage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Don Juan Matus dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Matus gets a clinch. Matus breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gaspar needs to keep his hands up - Matus had a free shot at his head there. Matus comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Gaspar walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Gaspar gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Matus cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Gaspar with a poor takedown and Matus counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Matus cracks a nice hook into Gaspar's ribs. Matus throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Matus uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Matus scores with a nice head shot. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gaspar looks for a takedown but Matus sprawls well. Don Juan Matus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Gaspar. Gaspar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Gaspar takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

That's one minute gone in the round. Gaspar dives in and grabs Matus's left leg, looking for a takedown. Matus pushes down on Gaspar's head and hops out. Matus throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Gaspar on the side of the head. Matus lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gaspar at a distance.
Matus slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Matus fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Gaspar to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Gaspar looks to clinch but Matus throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Gaspar taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
