Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kain Velasquez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kristof Velez! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Velez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Velasquez sees it coming and avoids it easily. Velez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Velez misses with a series of wild punches.
Velasquez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Velasquez seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Velasquez prevents Velez from improving his position. Velasquez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Velez is trying to get back to full guard. Velasquez thows a huge punch but Velez dodges it nicely.
Nice strikes from Velasquez there. Velez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Velasquez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Velasquez in particular looking to stall.
That's one minute gone in the round. Velez blocking the ground and pound attempt from Velasquez. Velez wants to improve his position but Velasquez is controlling well.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Velez scores with a jab to the jaw. Velez throws an overhand right that lands on Velasquez's shoulder, as Velasquez tries to avoid the shot. Velez listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Velez tries for a takedown but Velasquez circles away easily and Velasquez counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Velez's guard now. Velasquez stands and throws Velez's legs to the side, diving into side control. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Velez keeping moving, preventing Velasquez from controlling successfully. Velez keeping full guard, as Velasquez tries to pass. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Velez can do anything to dispel that myth. Velasquez showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Velasquez stands up over Velez, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Velasquez not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Velasquez makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Velasquez controls from within his opponent's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Velez tries to land a sweep but no joy. Velasquez is stalling in the full guard.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Kain Velasquez just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Velasquez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Velasquez showed some decent athleticism there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Still in half guard, Velasquez seems content to control. Velez wants to get back to full guard. Velasquez controlling the action here. Velasquez throwing shots but Velez is blocking nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Velasquez frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Velez is wriggling around trying to escape.
Velasquez unloading with bombs! Velasquez lands with some strikes. Velasquez content just to control the position here. Velez tries to lock up and control but Velasquez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Velez keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Velasquez unloading with bombs! Velasquez has hold of Velez's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Velez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Velasquez trying to control but Velez is having none of it. Velasquez throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Velez because Velasquez loaded up on that one. Velez wants to hold on but Velasquez pushes him away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kain Velasquez dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

Velez trying to keep a closed guard but Velasquez is proving a slippery customer.

Velasquez content just to control the position here. Velez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Velasquez has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Velez's face.
Velasquez working for a guillotine from mount but Velez is in no mood to give up. Velasquez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Velez tries to hold on but Velasquez postures up. Kain Velasquez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Velez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Velasquez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Velasquez controlling the pace for now. Kristof Velez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Velez tries to hold on but Velasquez postures up. Velasquez controlling from the full mount. Velez manages to regain half guard. Good work. Kain Velasquez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Velasquez looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that's the end of the fight! Kain Velasquez showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Velasquez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
