The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cardinal fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hughes rushes Cardinal and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cardinal tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hughes just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hughes has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cardinal is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Cardinal dives in for a single leg takedown but Hughes sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Hughes goes for a double leg but Cardinal avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cardinal continues to drive forward.

Hughes goes for a takedown attempt but Cardinal pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Cardinal closes the distance and clinches up with Hughes, looking for a takedown. Cardinal pushes Hughes against the cage but Hughes circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Cardinal tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hughes defends well and Cardinal ends up having to push Hughes into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Cardinal tries to pull guard but Hughes forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Cardinal pulls guard successfully.
Hughes is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Cardinal has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Hughes is looking to defend but Cardinal has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Hughes! Cardinal pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Hughes taps out and this one is all over!
