Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Craig Garrett (ranked 6115 p4p, 546 weight class) and Jai Hale (ranked 6983 p4p, 576 weight class). Jai Hale is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Craig Garrett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jai Hale!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hale throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Garrett.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Hale jumps into guard, dragging Garrett to the mat.
Garrett loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Garrett wants to control from the top but Hale keeps moving.
Garrett postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Garrett wants to control from the top but Hale keeps moving.
Hale is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hale looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Garrett has picked Hale up and slammed him! Hale can't keep hold of the triangle and Garrett manages to pass to side control!
Garrett is looking to take a break and control but Hale is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hale tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Garrett throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Garrett wants to control but Hale is keeping him busy.
Garrett has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hale tries to improve position but can't.
Garrett trying to control the position but Hale is working away.
Garrett sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Hale is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Hale manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Garrett wants to get back to full guard.

Hale not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Garrett pushes Hale off looking to stand but Hale dives back in and keeps control.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hale working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jai Hale dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Hale takes the fight into the clinch.

Hale turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Hale is trying to get an arm triangle but Garrett is defending well.
Hale controlling the position from side mount.

Hale decides to stand back up.

Hale drives through and clinches with Garrett against the cage.

Garrett throws an elbow that misses. Hale uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Garrett's guard. Nice move by Hale!

Garrett is looking to stand up but Hale isn't so interested in that idea.

Hale stands up and waves to Garrett to follow him.
Hale shoots and misses
and Garrett counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Garrett swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Hale.
Hale tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Garrett defends well and Hale ends up having to push Garrett into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Garrett tests Hale's chin there with a solid looking shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hale takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Garrett is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Garrett stuns Hale with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Left hook, right uppercut from Garrett.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Garrett lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Hale misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Craig Garrett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jai Hale.
Garrett stalks Hale and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Hale's face. Hale staggers backwards, shaken.
Craig Garrett is winning the standup battle so far.
Hale shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Garrett lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Garrett throws a one two combo.
Garrett goes for a double leg but Hale avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hale continues to drive forward.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Craig Garrett dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Garrett misses with a takedown attempt - Hale sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Hale throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Hale has his takedown stuffed
and Garrett counters with a nice uppercut.

Hale fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Garrett, pushing him back against the cage.
Garrett tries to circle away but Hale has him pinned against the cage.

Hale breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Garrett sizes up Hale with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Garrett throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hale avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hale on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Garrett tries to clinch there but Hale circles away.
Garrett lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hale circles away quickly and effectively.

Hale closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Garrett's guard.

Hale seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Garrett is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hale is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hale would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Hale looking to sit in guard and control but Garrett gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Garrett throws an elbow that misses. Hale uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Garrett's guard. Nice move by Hale!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hale wants to stand but Garrett is controlling his posture from full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Craig Garrett.
I think Garrett has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
