PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Cleary (ranked 2870 p4p, 350 weight class) and Jon Snitch (ranked 2866 p4p, 348 weight class). Snitch has chosen I Wanna Rock as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 17 - 2, fighting out of New York, Patrick Cleary!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 18 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Snitch!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Snitch shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cleary's guard.
Cleary has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Snitch has passed into side control.
Snitch taking a breather here.
Snitch grinds an elbow into Cleary's temple.
Cleary is looking to reverse the position.
Snitch just content to control the position.
Snitch trying to control the action but Cleary is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cleary gets back to half guard.
Snitch slips a nice elbow through Cleary's hands, connecting with Cleary's forehead.

Snitch with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Cleary trying to control from the bottom.
Snitch looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Snitch looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Snitch is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Cleary tries to roll over but Snitch keeps him under control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Snitch takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Cleary is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Touch Of Death Combat Academy that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Snitch wants to free his trapped foot but Cleary is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Cleary trying to hold on to Snitch's head to control him but Snitch postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Cleary drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Snitch is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Cleary missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Snitch is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cleary can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Snitch controls the pace.

Snitch looking to sit in guard and control but Cleary gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Snitch tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cleary throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Snitch works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Snitch is pulling down on Cleary's head. It's preventing any offense from Cleary, at least for the moment.
Cleary postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jon Snitch will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Snitch is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cleary's half guard.

Snitch takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Cleary can't escape the position.
Cleary wants to hold on but Snitch pushes him away.

Cleary is desperately trying to improve his position but Snitch has a good base and remains in mount.
Snitch sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Snitch has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cleary can't escape the position.

Cleary might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Snitch is keen to just control but Cleary is a slippery customer.

Cleary is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Snitch winds up and cracks Cleary with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Cleary tries to roll over but Snitch keeps him under control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Jon Snitch showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Snitch throws out a powerful jab.
Snitch lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Snitch throws a series of strikes that have Cleary backpedaling.

Cleary gets caught napping as Snitch dives in and scores a takedown. Cleary manages to retain guard.
Cleary keeping moving, preventing Snitch from controlling successfully.

Cleary looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Snitch stays in close to Cleary's body and controls the position.
Cleary can't keep his opponent in guard - Snitch advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Cleary moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Cleary looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Snitch has picked Cleary up and slammed him! Cleary can't keep hold of the triangle and Snitch manages to pass to side control!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Snitch wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cleary keeps working.
Cleary can't do much from the bottom here.
Cleary is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Snitch's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Cleary ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Snitch moves away.
Patrick Cleary has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Cleary, right into the meat.
Cleary throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nice body punch from Snitch.
Cleary walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Snitch tests Cleary's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Snitch scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Snitch drives through with a takedown into guard.

Cleary working for a triangle but Snitch defends it easily.

Cleary looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Cleary wants to hit a switch here but Snitch passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Cleary there!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Snitch tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Snitch avoids the attempt from Cleary to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Snitch comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Snitch has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
